Jodi, Diosa. I think we lost both Jodi and Diosa due to misogyny. Correct that, I know we lost Diosa due to misogyny, Jodi left about the same time.
Rick - absolutely the best poster we ever had on cars and automotive stuff. Really nice guy, too. Does great BBQ.
Yeticus Rex - All around fun guy. Good drinking partner during a Vegas bar hop.
Giant Freaking Marine
LVGeoBabe - Another couple I really miss.
Aanamika - 'mika left for very good reasons, but I do wish she’d reconsider and come back.
Gfactor - The one who did all the work on our Staff Report, yet still gave me a co-author byline.
Diosa - California Speech coaches have to stick together.
Lieu - In these dark days, we need stories about pooping in a canoe.
DMark - A most gracious host. The wife and I still talk about that Dopefest.
Lots of others. Most of the rest have suffered Author Existence Failure, which awaits us all eventually.
I don’t post a lot in GD/P&E/The Pit, but didn’t Bricker claim he voted for Hillary? Or was it Third Party?
I can dig it. I did precisely the same thing.
Cool feature! For me, #1 was Exapno_Mapcase, #2 was Chronos, #3 was Dolores_Reborn
I miss elucidator. I hope he comes back soon.
There are also posters I miss from long, long ago, not exactly because of profound, prolific posting history, but because they struck me as interesting young people whose trajectory I would like to know more about. One such young woman was - if I recall the name correctly, I’m not getting hits on this exact spelling - lobster mobster. She flounced, again IIRC, after one too many “out there” posts that older posters rightfully, but perhaps not overly kindly, called her out for.
Then there was a 16 year old young man, very smart but perhaps socially inept with his peers, from maybe 10 years ago, who had a sort of Greco-Roman user name that started with V. For the life of me I cannot remember what his name was, and the unfamiliar search function here is not helping me. It wasn’t “Valorian” or anything like that exactly, but that’s as close as I can come with my very faulty memory. I’m sure other old-time posters recall him. As far as I know, he wandered off, appropriately enough, when real life became more engaging to him. I hope so, because I never felt great about the fact that this wonderful young man was spending so much time on line with us old farts.
Anyway, I wish I could hear how those two posters are, many years on.
In the same vein, I remember another young man who chose as his username some controversial US General (?) and later changed it to Qui Shing Something or the other?
Curits LeMay/ Qin Shi Huangdi. Last posted in 2019, not that long ago.
What’s going on with Annie-Xmas, or do you know? I do know that she’s had quite a chaotic life over the past few years.
(Haven’t read the entire thread.)
@AnnieXmas…She posted using a library computor.
I assume the library closed due to COVID.
Which reminds me of Stauderhorse, whom I mainly remember for her So I’m listening to the Beatles… thread.
Qin had an interesting time, raised and sheltered in an ultra-conservative environment, he went off to college and rebelled big time.
It seems to me that we have not seen Klondike Geoff in several months. Given his age I get concerned if he hasn’t posted in a while.
Then it’s a clear sign you need to retire. I only-half-kiddingly said I was retiring so I could invest in some serious time-wasting. And voilà…
…
Me, I miss Sampiro and his Sedaris-esque tales. Searching for him once, I found good wishes during his mom’s illness sent by another favorite, Otto:
I’d really like to see him back too. Definitely one of the better members of the SDMB over the years IMHO.
Shirley U Jest and Duckduckgoose, will they return someday?
I think you’re thinking of Vox Imperatoris, now Vox_Imperatoris
I’d like to get my 20-years-younger self back. Any chance you can make that happen?
Strange to say, but I miss Diogenes the Cynic. When he kept his anger in check he was a fine poster.
Maybe in the spirit of change to the new board some of the old banned posters should be given another shot, I’d say maybe the ones who had at least a few thousand posts, since they clearly aren’t trolls.
Plus, we could use all the people we can get.
This post reminds me of SpeakerFortheDead, who was only 14 when he started posting here. He ended up going to medical school and then his posts became fewer and farther between. I hope he’s doing OK these days.
Sometimes I wonder how Chimpy is getting on. I met him once, many years ago, in a group pub meet - he was a tall, strapping lad but surprisingly intelligent and mature in his views. Also mature in his appearance, as I discovered when he revealed that he was actually 15 at the time (despite looking like a university student) and thus too young to be drinking the pint he was holding.
He stopped posting when he became an actual university student. Must be in his 30s now.
