Not renewing.
I renewed a few days ago. A lot of shit going on in my life right now and since it is just $7 I didn’t want to spend any time thinking about it. I still believe it is wrong to keep us in suspense until after many will renew just to get some extra money out of us. Compared to everything else going it isn’t that important so I just put out the money. At some other time I might have done something else.
I renewed, because I don’t think I would like spending weeks or months unable to post. Besides, $7.48 for a year of no ads didn’t seem like a bad deal.
Ditto. I was planning on not renewing anyway even before free posting was announced. I don’t post here all that often anymore and I find myself reading less and less. Add that to the “service” issues and I can’t justify paying, even 7 bucks.
I logged out to see what the ad-sponsored experience would be like…

It was the most annoying, visually obtrusive experience I have seen on this board, it truly annoyed me
even though my edited Hosts file works brilliantly on my machines (I was on a customer machine to see what the ad-sponsored SDMB would be like) and I can log out on my machines and not see a single ad, no banners, no inline ads, no google ads, nothing, just blank space where the ad would be, I’m still going to renew
Sure, I could be evil, not renew, and use my edited hosts file to block the ads and get a roughly similar experience to being a paid member, i feel it would be wrong to do so
I HATE ads, I’ll happily pay the $7.48 to renew 
Besides, since TPTB don’t want us to renew, as they’d rather we see the ads, that gives me additional reason TO renew, just to spite them and be contrary

I am not renewing.
I’m not renewing and have, in fact, decided to leave the Dope. The administration is the main reason, but I also am turned off by some trends I’ve noticed among the membership. So Saturday will be my last day here.

I am sorry you and *RickJay ** will both be on hiatus until the free to post goes through. I look forward to both your posts, especially in Baseball and Football of course. I guess it is less than a year before **PRR ** is back at least.

We don’t interact much, may a few crafting threads, but I will miss you too. You always seem to be a level headed poster.
Any chance you could be talked into elaborating at all on your reasons and the trends. Even if it is by PM. I have this streak of curiosity that cats are jealous of.

The boards just aren’t the investment for me anymore, since I run across something irritating nearly every time I’m here, and not in a schadenfreude kind of way.

LiveJournal is basically a blogging site. My name there is msmcknittington, and I’m not going to link directly to my journal because that seems self-aggrandizing, but a search is pretty easy. I mostly babble about the farm and knitting and my cat – all MPSIMS, all the time. 
Most of my entries are friends-locked, but if someone adds me as a friend and I recognize them, then I’ll add back with minimum prodding.
I’m not renewing due to lack of funds. I can live with the ads, obnoxious as they are, I just ignore or make fun of them.

Last I heard, he’s not planning to come back.
That is sad, I thought he would return after the agreed upon time.
Well, now I’m just dizzy!
I renewed. I still think it’s worth it, and I’m even willing to give TPTB an extra $7.48 to tide them over until they start getting fat checks from the advertisers.
I’ll be interested in seeing everyone’s reaction when the ads become more ubiquitos.
