Hey, I swore at Duke in general and gave props to Coach K in the same post. I think that says something, even if that something is, “Man, were you ever drunk.”
I think the reason I always admired Coach K is that he seems to be coaching a college basketball team, rather than an NBA farm team. Maybe he is full of the same bullshit that permeates the worst of the NCAA and I just haven’t paid enough attention, I don’t know.
Somehow, though, I’ve managed to maintain a tremendous respect for Duke basketball, even through my deep-seeded, highly immature hatred of them.

The Pac 10 went 28-16 in the NCAA tournament the last 3 years, with at least 5 regional finalists and Arizona in the title game, in which they outplayed the other team but got robbed.
That’s better than pretty much any other conference in the last 3 years.
Yeah, they were horrible this year. We knew that even before the NCAA tournament. I didn’t see anyone saying that anyone else from the Pac 10 should have gone this year. It was questionable whether even Washington deserved to go.
It’s obvious why the Duke haters hate Duke. Duke wins. They win consistently, they rarely play below their ability and they don’t get ousted from the NCAA tournament in the second round. I’m a Louisville fan and I’ve been grinding my teeth since, oh, late January. I wish I could be a Duke fan, it would be so much easier. Those bastards.
As one poster has noted I could care less about Duke, but Dicky V needs to shut the fuck up. If Texas doesn’t beat you, UConn or Syracuse (hopefully the latter) will. Hell, I hope the Illini hand your ass to you and Vitale chokes on his own tongue.

You are correct, DX2, it is easier being a fan. I have been on this particular bandwagon for the last 26 years (yes, even in 1995). My sister was a freshman at Duke in 1978 (in the Coach Foster days), and I met Gene Banks (“Tinkerbell”) at the campus busstop. He talked to me, a skinny, pimply-faced seventh grader, about his previous summer playing in Europe as he waited for his bus. I was a fan through Junior High, High School, through my four years at Duke (Engineering, '88), and every day since then. My wife has converted to the Cameron Faithful, and she should get to see her first live game this Friday at the Georgia Dome.

First of all, I am not a Duke fan. That said, lighten the fuck up people!
Coach K hasn’t developed NBA talent? Grant Hill was on a hall of fame track before his foot problems started; I notice that Cory Maggete and Elton Brand’s names are omitted. How many NBA players (other than Isiah) has Bobby Knight developed? How about Eddie Sutton?
Duke is hardly the only team that stocks its roster with h.s. all-americans (Kentucky, Kansas, Carolina, Arizona, Florida, Maryland, UConn) and the only top flight program that has similar academic standards is Stanford (where have you gone Georgetown?).
The fact that Duke has received so many high seeds in the tournament over the years is a direct reult of succeeding in the toughest conference year after year.
If there is any reason at all to hate them, it would be because of the smugness of their fans.
