Who's your "Mary Ann?"

I’ll just lace up my running shoes right now, shall I?

Ashley over Mary Kate.

Maybe that’s why I liked Sports Night so much. It seems to me they made an effort to break the trend, and not do a Ginger/Mary Ann thing, but to have two Mary Ann types. Or maybe it’s just me. At any rate, both of the female Sports Night leads were hot.

Yeah, just keep running…

Bailey from WKRP was one of the ones I was expecting - there seems to be nearly 100% agreement on her over Loni/Jennifer, in my experience.

So the next question would be, is there a reason? Is it the personality of the character that they portray? Is it (often) the sort of “girl next door” quality that they have that makes them seem more approachable and therefore more attractive?

…and you’d better run for at least three years.

Wait for me!

Sailor Mars!

If you lived here in Connecticut it’d still be gross, but legal (they’re 16, right?).

Denise Richards over Dina Meyer in Starship Troopers!

No, wait, she’s the “Ginger…”

Denise Richards over Neve Campbell in Wild Things!

No, that’s not it either…

How about Denise Richards over Sophie Marceau in The World is Not Enough?

I’m no good at this…

Hoshi!!! Cuz she’s Hoshi!

I’ll second the Knight’s Tale reference (a comment I recently made while watching with Ms. D_Odds).

And I preferred Dina Meyer in Starship Troopers.

Absolutely.

I don’t know how you’ll get hold of it, but several years ago the BBC ran a drama called ‘Hear my song’. It starred Ned Beatty as a legendary Irish tenor, with a young Tara as a romantic subplot.
Very, very sweet.

Art Vandelay, Architect wrote, re: Queer as Folk:

The version they show in Great Britain is different than the one they show in the U.S.?

Do they use different actors and different scripts, or do they just edit certain things out of one version or the other?

CUTE is better

I would definitely go for Willow over Buffy, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I’d take Good Willow, Evil Willow, Nerdy Willow, Witchy Willow, Straight Willow, Lesbian Willow, you name it :D.

Abso-frilly-lutely, as Willow herself might say.

And then, of course, they paired her with a “Mary Ann” of her own. Once Tara stopped dressing like a frump, her Inner Hottie came out – Bigtime!

And then there’s Fred, on Angel. Boo-Yah!

Both Anya and Cordelia are nice to look at (as is SMG) but none of them hold a candle to the Mary Ann Triad.

Motion from the floor to install Willow, Tara and Fred in the Bailey Quarters Hall of Fame…

Does anyone remember Barbie’s friend Midge? Midge was supposed to play the “cute girl’s homely friend” role, I suppose. She always had dark hair, freckles and looked un-made up. I always identified and sympathized more with Midge, because my best girlfriend was cuter than me and got more attention.

Denise Richards over Dina Meyer??? Gak! I’d take dog vomit over Denise Richards any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Denise Richards = Blech!

Don’t mince words, Edwardina, tell us how you really feel.

To pugluvr:

Never seen it.
But what’s wrong with freckles and dark hair?
Especially freckles…YUM!
