Yes, Showtime filmed a seperate American version of the series. Same characters, but an entirely new cast. The setting was changed from Manchester to Pittsburgh (although they filmed it in Toronto, which doesn’t look a whole lot like Pittsburgh.)
I think the first season of the American series simply reused the scripts (slightly edited, changing references of British locales, people, and slang words to U.S. equivalents.) Showtime touted the show as having “no limits to what it would show.” It wasn’t true. They kept some of the gratuitous sex scenes, but cut out the more salacious bits.
Fair enough. While I myself do not ‘partake’ (ahem) I can tell you that Mrs. CaptMurdock digs Jeff Goldblum (see above) bigtime.
She also has a jones for Oliver Platt. Come to think of it, in that photo he looks a lot like me.
