Why are albums always released on Tuesdays?

Ever since I can remember, every new release of a cd or home movie always falls on a Tuesday. Does anyone have any idea why?

I think it’s arbitrary, but consistent so stores don’t have to keep track of when they are allowed to start selling a particular album. BTW, the standard is Monday in the UK and most of Europe.

I always assumed it’s because it’s the least busy day of the work week. Video/DVD is the same way. It’s easier to put out the new stock on the lightest traffic day. Not something I know for sure, but it always seemed to make sense.
