Why are you watching the Harris/ Trump debate?

I like how Harris says Trump did something stupid/evil and he half closes his eyes and nods in agreement.

Watching because my wife wanted too. There was nothing I expected could change the way I thought about either one of them… and I was right.

As an adult, it literally boggles my mind that another adult could watch Trump an think, yeah, he would make a good president.

The Stanley Laurel of Presidents.

I watched because I wanted to know more about Harris, see how she reacts under pressure and without a crowd of fans cheering for her.

I had to mute The Idiot a few times because he’s bad for my blood pressure, but as I have been actively going out of my way to avoid hearing his voice for a long time, it was actually interesting to hear him speak for longer than a sound byte. And I mean interesting in terms of ranting, lying, idiocy and not for any true educational content.

I was irritated that he kept blowing through the moderators to get the last word, but in hindsight it might no have been a bad thing. It didn’t rattle Harris at all, and she manages her rebuttals well.

Dog eaters beware. The Debate last night demonstrated how badly Trump has declined since 2016. He can’t hide his insane conspiracy theories with “I don’t know David Duke” bullshit of 2016, he’s now just full on Crazytown. He was calling into FOX this morning ranting about the moderators and wanting polls that showed he won. It didn’t take much for Kamala to poke the Bear and he took the bait every single step of the way, and he really went downhill when she told the viewers to go to one of his boring rallies. He lost his shit and any possibility of providing any substantive policy or debate.

In contrast Harris was commanding right from the first handshake. He was rattled that he actually had to debate a black female. She was very well prepared and hit the right tone. Why this or any election where Trump is the GOP candidate is even close just boggles my mind

I spoke to my Trump-loving mom just prior to the debate. She and my brother were looking forward to watching it together, because they had enjoyed watching Biden fuck up so much. I wonder how they liked what they got last night?
(Not really, I’m sure they saw something totally different than what I saw).

I’ll point out one last time, probably futilely, that people like you and I are not the target audience. She already has our votes. She needs to sway the undecideds, who don’t want seemingly vague answers. It’s their biggest complaint, even after a debate in which Harris literally slew the dragon.

After last night if they are still undecided then they really are not paying attention and are not seriously considering the pros and cons of the two candidates. Immigrants eating puppies? Really? They have a hard time deciding who did better?

Apparently so.. That may be paywalled.

Yeah, that rural couple in PA with an American flag the size of a barn wall? They’re not “undecided,” whatever. This is so typical of NYT, let’s keep going into the hinterland time and again and listen to MAGA folks, really listen for the deep wisdom they can teach us.

Some of her answers could be called vague, but she was also quite specific in others, far more than Trump. She outlined specific tax credits she’d create for families, and for new small businesses, for example. That’s about as specific and detailed as you can get in a debate where you’re limited to two minutes of speaking time.

I assume an up-side for these “undecided” voters is that the media keep checking in on them so they get to be in the spotlight longer.

I never said anything about what you or I thought. I said that that I have not seen anyone who isn’t MAGA (or you) saying she did poorly.

You want to talk about what other people thought, you have to actually go out and read what they thought. If you have any evidence that the undecided thought she did a bad job, that would be good to offer.

But you just stated your own opinion as if it was the opinion of the undecided. And then acted like someone else’s opinion was irrelevant. So I pointed out that they are far from the only person with that opinion.

You are, in fact, the only person I’ve seen state your specific opinion. The MAGA reasons for saying she did poorly are different (and less defensible).

Well, it’s been reported over and over again by pollsters, so I’m just reporting what they’re saying. Perhaps they’re all lying?

I absolutely agree with this. I’m just reporting what others (pollsters, field reporters, etc.) are reporting. I’m not sure what magic trick she’s expected to pull to get in the weeds in two minutes. It would seem that 90 minutes (or the eternity it seemed) of hearing what Trump had to say would be enough for undecideds to run screaming for the hills.

NM…discourse is annoying, five words.
