Why can't I drink anything!!!???! (not alcohol-related, slightly TMI)

I don’t rant very often, but maybe it’ll make me feel better…I’ll warn you in advance that this is fairly lame.

Sometimes I hate my body. Over the past several months it has decided that I can’t drink anything except water. I don’t ever drink tea or coffee, nor soda or alcohol for the most part. So there are three things I do like to drink: milk, juice, and water. Well, I don’t love water, but I’ll drink it.

However:

I can’t drink milk any longer because I’m lactose intollerant. I do drink it occasionally when I take lactaid to avoid the gastrointestinal distress, but not nearly as often as I used to, or would like to.

And, while I do like juice, it has become inceasingly painful to drink it. It used to be that only highly acidic juices would cause me to get heartburn- or is it an “acid reflux” reaction I don’t know- but now they all do(even white grape juice, which gerber touts as being “gentle on babies stomachs” theirs maybe but not mine!), except for two. One of which is apple juice, which produces the same painful effects as milk when I drink it, so I avoid it since there’s no magical pill to counteract that. The other is rasberry juice, which is fine, except for the fact that it is 170 calories per 8oz glass because they add a boatload of sugar to it. I can’t even drink fake juice that has citric acid added to it, and for some reason they all add it, be it tang, crystal light or very fine.

So I’ve been drinking water. Lots of water. I am sick of drinking fucking water! Is it so wrong to wish to drink something besides water without having to take a pill of some sort to conteract the negative effects? I want to drink milk and juice without getting sick, god dammit!!!

I was wrong, I don’t feel better. sigh.

Can you try one of those flavored waters, like Propel? I love that stuff.

Depends on if they add the citric acid to it. Thanks for the suggestion, though, I didn’t think of that

Have you tried looking into the really granola-y health type juices?

See a doctor. You could have gastritis, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, a peptic ulcer, or some other annoying, but very treatable problem.

Qad hit the nail on the head. I had similar difficulty last year, which progressed to the inability to keep food down, that turned out to be esophagitis. A scope showed a hole being burned into my esophagous from acid backing up just far enough to eat away at it. A round of stomach medicine cleared it up.

See a stomach doc.
