Ya know, look at the job. She AND Slick Willy won the presidency, and they had to sell their hearts, minds, and bodies to do it. That doesn’t leave much of the real person left.
So I agree with jayron 32 and others with the caveat that she is human, and maybe not quite the demon you make her out to be.
But I really don’t like her because she is mean. I mean low down, hold-a-grudge-for-life, conniving, maneuvering, surprise-you’re-dead, mean. When you see her move and hear her speak there can be no doubt that if a guy were to piss her off, she would be having rocky mountain oysters for brekky.
Since I’ve already had a throw-down with JohnJohn about this in the infamous “fat ass” thread, I’ll just reiterate one of my better points, which is: All politicians fudge the truth or step on other people or try to say the right things just to get elected. Why is it different now that Hillary is running for Senate? Why is she the one getting slammed? EVERYONE DOES IT.
As for the Diallo comment she made, how many of you had convicted (or not) those officers before the trial. She’s human and she made a mistake. At least she wasn’t just saying what a campaign manager told her to say.
Which brings me to Lazio. There’s something about him that just bothers me. He seems too rehearsed. Maybe I’m wrong, but it’s a feeling I have. His ads are so squeeky clean, but there’s something about his smile that says, “I don’t smile often. This is very difficult for me.” No one is as perfect as he is trying to come off right now. We will see more dirt on him as it gets closer. Hillary just had an 8-year head start in the tabloids. Give the boy some time.
And jrepka, your entire post was well thought out and I couldn’t have said it better myself.
she is running for Senate on the basis of being a celebrity, not for her ability (which I have not seen demonstrated) or accomplishments - which are non existent.
she was named one of the 100 top lawyers because of who her husband was - just what was so great about her law career - Castle Grande - Whitewater? any legally significant cases - precedents set? injustices over turned? Do you think she would have been named anything if she wasn’t married to Clinton?
I am sorry, but I did not hear her reaction to the Juanita Broderick story - what were her feelings? What did she say, as a feminist, to Juanita Broderick? To Paula? and the rest?
she is surronded by flacks and stooges who constantly say how smart she is - but how smart is she? (other then she married the pervert who would someday be president, I have never seen a demonstration) She certainly is forgetful - about Travelgate, her billing records and so on. Do we want someone that absent minded to represent us in the Senate? What has she done that is smart? how has her being “smart” benefited Illinois or Arkansas or the nation? her attempt to socialize medicine? that not even a democratic controlled congress would pass? her books - which someone else wrote for her? her command of local issues in NY - where she is extensively briefed before each carefully controlled meeting?
Like her husband, she encourages tribalism and polarization, not cooperation, and demonizes those who oppose her. Just look at Travelgate - innocent people fired, framed, and financially ruined. Martin Luther King wanted us to see the content of souls, and realize what we have in common. Hillary triangulates based on race and class, while she herself travels in limosuines and lives like the Grand Imperial Queen of the United States.
The press, since celebrity worship is good business, and in sympathy with her general big government, race and class oriented pollitics, gives her a (relatively)easy time. How many difficult questions have you ever seen her asked on TV or in interviews? She is overpackaged and oversold, and I am sick of her endless hubris.
The Clintons are really mean…they give trifling amounts to charities, and proclaim how generous they are. I really doubt that they EVER paid for anything! I remember her quote (after purchasing the house in NY) “the taxes are so high!”-what do you expect of a limousine liberal who has spent her entire life at the public trough!
Politicians like her make me sick - and. (I had forgotten about the “donations” of used underwear, shower curtains, etc.) they are CHEAP! Remember the incident where she had lunch in a diner, and didn’t leave a tip? Thats how these people think-tipping is for the “little people”!
I think it is her personality. She is really not a politician - she has no perceptable ability to connect with people. They seem to be abstractions to her.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a cause to hate her, but gaaah, it’s the repetition. I know a few people with limited empathy and people skills, and I get along with them fine, so long as I don’t see them that often.
But this unempathetic person has been getting in my face for eight years now!! I want her to go away. (FYI - voted for Clinton twice, thinks he should have resigned, and thinks Starr should be tossed in jail).
How does anyone know (yet) that Lazio is any better? I just think there have been worse men who have run for office and gotten less shit than she gets for being a slimy politician. I am not a huge fan of Hillary, but I think she’s getting a lot of crap that should be dealt to others equally.
Rick Lazio could hump the Queen Mother and still be a more upstanding person in the eyes of New Yorkers. How about attributing some of her actions over the last 8 years to a man and see if you feel the same way. Are we just more used to MEN being underhanded and we have a double standard when it comes to a woman running for office?
[I told myself to stay out of this conversation. Oh well.]
Just thought I’d throw in my 3 cents…
I’m a Californian and I, for one, would like to have Hillary or someone like her represent me in Washington. The fact that she is so widely despised in Washington (and elsewhere) is a good thing, it implies she is respected and well known (and possibly feared). If Newt Gingrich, for instance, were the junior senator from New York would anyone have expended the necessary mental energy to hate him? Would anyone even know his name outside of New York? If I were selecting a new junior senator I would definitely pick Hillary over Rudy or Rick. A person’s state of origin has very little to do with how well they can represent a state in the senate. Hillary is a lawyer and lawyer’s represent other people’s cause’s (which they may disagree with personally) for a living. Think of it this way, would you use the “locals are better than carpet-baggers logic” to make any other kind of decision? If you were charged with murder, who would you want to defend you, Johnny Cochran or Ted your lawyer friend and neighbor who isn’t very good but he’s known you all his life? Would you even factor-in state of origin when deciding on your representitive in a court of law, or into any decision affecting your public life?
IMHO if Rick Lazio gets elected it will be a decade or two before he’s built up enough seniority for anyone to take his calls (be they a Democrat or a Republican). Hillary is famous nationwide and ruthless enough to make people pay attention when she’s talking. Another way to look at it is this, no one is asking you to be Hillary’s friend. Who do you want representing you in Washington, a pit bull bitch or some total unknown lightweight that the senior senators will have fun with by seeing how long they can keep him on hold before he finally hangs up?
(note, if you are a registered republican and a conservative then you shouldn’t respond to this thread since your opinion is totally biased, start your own “Let’s all hate Hillary” thread)
None of the individuals in Washington bother me too much.
What does bother me is the ideological polarization of the factions. Everybody is a fanatic!!! There are no compromises on ideological issues.
Politics is defined (by some) as the art of compromise.
The current state of affairs leads only to deadlock and stalemate; the needs of the nation go begging, ragged, naked, friendless as a refugee.
And please–if the morons on the board want to say “Then we need to get rid of those damn XXXXX!”–well, save it!! That kind of attitude, that “there is only one correct view of this issue possible, & it is OURS!”–that’s why we have a problem.
“(note, if you are a registered republican and a conservative then you shouldn’t respond to this thread since your opinion is totally biased, start your own “Let’s all hate Hillary” thread)”
I think that quote says it all. This is exactly the type of polarized, rabid, vapid, us versus them tribal empty mentality that Hillary! encourages. I guess only those who are of the correct political party and leanings are not “totally biased”? Instead of “…republican and a conservative…” why not substitue the word “Jew?” How does the logic of that statement sound then? If this is the type of mind that supports Hillary!, then you can see why I hate Hillary!
PS -
Or do you mean that there are so many people who are not registered republicans and conservatives that hate Hillary! that we should not take up the volumes of space they need to reply? How about non-registered republicans? Non-conservative but registered? conservative but not registered?
PPS - don’t worry. If Hillary! loses in NY (si deus vult), you might soon hear that she has always been a Dodgers fan.
PPPS - new thread maybe? How long do you think it would be before Hillary! was voted out of the tribe in Survivor?
Regardless of one’s political preferences, it is difficult to ignore that many suspicious events have happened in the Clinton/Gore administration, most of those things were under their direct control and most benefitted the Clintons/Gores, or their friends. Vast right-wing conspiracy, indeed. - MC
