Why hate the Dallas Cowboys so much?

No, but they don’t exactly shy away from using it in reference to themselves, either (as has been noted by others here).

You got me chief die hard to the corp as they come

heard it all before so bring it on

The real reason is why the fan hate? and for that the answer is…because
Dallas fans can say things others can’t

  • winning record vs the entire NFL

  • 20 consecutive winning seasons

  • 34 playoff wins

  • division titles

  • 5 Lombardi titles

*10 conference titles

we back up our claims of greatness with things that are
factual and real, the rest talk and whine putting themselves
ahead when they don’t belong in the same league as us

I too know this is a zombie thread, but since I hate the Cowboys and was perusing the thread, I had to ask… (Lifelong Steelers fan here, BTW)

I know you are a Steeler fan, so I hope this was a joke. I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say you were kidding. But to set the record (sort of) straight. Neil O’Donnell was a lot of things, but he wasn’t a scumbag. He threw two of the worst-looking interceptions not just in the Super Bowl but in any football game. But he was basically an average QB who had an offense built around him, and when he went to the Jets, he showed how average he truly was. Not a bad guy, and the first int. was supposedly the receiver’s fault.

However, this one? I have to ask for a cite.

I have never heard another story other than the one that was mentioned upthread. NFL Films did team highlight films for every NFL Team, and some guy who worked for NFL Films tagged the Cowboys (and their highlight film) America’s Team for one of their seasons in the 1970’s. It obviously wasn’t either year the Cowboys lost to the Steelers in the Super Bowl, but I don’t recall what year the name was coined.
I agree with most of Airman Doors other reasons, though.

Personally, like all people who grew up as Steeler fans in the 1970’s, the Cowboys were easy to hate. The Raiders, though, were the Ravens to me. They were pure evil.

I had a lot of respect for Landry, and what Jerry Jones did to him was just classless. Jones is an attention-whore, with the same “look at me” personality as Donald Trump. He enjoyed firing Landry because he enjoyed the attention. That turned me off of the Cowboys forever, but some of the players of those 90’s teams, especially Michael (snort) Irvin and Emmitt (score a TD, take off my helmet) Smith, and two coaches in particular (Barry Switzer, who is the Joe Biden of NFL coaches and the completely overrated Bill Parcells), didn’t help, either.

Landry had just coached the Cowboys to a 3-13 record the previous season. The game had clearly passed him by. What was Jerry supposed to do - let Landry keep coaching another decade?

There is no rivalry with the Steelers

both had ego’s and the decision was mutual between Jones and Johnson
that he was to step down

hates em cause they are winners - check

Just a part of the bible belt something you clearly don’t understand

Nobody payed him off just sour grapes we took one back from the 70’s

this is actually just a rumor, there is no evidence that points that NFL
films approached them with that title

got it Steelers cheerleaders actual NY hookers, Cowboys cheerleaders (hot)

Kept you guessing didn’t it??

all winners by the way

Integrity? Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, Ray Lewis and Carruth talk about
grasping at straws and attaining nothing

$$$$$$ Emmitt was about the dollars at the end not the team

don’t have to play in Dallas, both NY teams play in NJ, the Redskins play
outside DC,

Dates a Cowboys fan now we are getting to the real issue here

and we end with sour grapes Dallas is still better despite Pittsburghs 6

Thank you all for playing see ya’ll next time

Speaking as a Packer fan…

One big thing that factors into my personal dislike* for the Cowboys is the outsized amount of attention that they have received from the sports media, for as long as I’ve been a football fan (i.e., about 40 years).

When they’re good, it seems like NFL coverage is massively obsessed with them – in the 1990s, when they were winning Super Bowls, it felt like they were the “Game of the Week” every single week. Even when they aren’t very good, it feels like the media spend an inordinate amount of time on the soap opera that comes out of Dallas.

How much of this is driven by the team themselves (particularly Jerry Jones), versus the media feeling that anything Cowboys will draw eyeballs, I don’t know.

(Now, I note all of this, fully acknowledging that “Favre Watch” was an obsession with the media for several years, though at least that moved on from GB when he did.)

    • I say “dislike” because I reserve “hate” for things far more horrid than sports.

So what is worse a Dallas Fan or an dopey internet Troll? I think the answer is “When they are the same person.”

What did you expect?? many of those who are now media idiots
grew up where it was customary to watch the Cowboys on Sunday

and many began liking them, either out of their own choice or?
their families like of them, so of course many of them are going
to pick Dallas to win

So the real question is why do you care who they pick/like/hype?
I mean it’s not like they really care what you think, or even tend
to disagree with them on when it comes to Dallas

they see what they want, the same way you see and hear what
you want it comes to them…neither side is persuaded to budge
on how they see

You’d have better luck pushing a penny using telepathy then
you would changing their minds regarding the Cowboys

to easy,

our answer is? when a poster can’t do anything but complain cause they can’t refute what is being said

All true but what have the 'pies done since they won the Super Bowl after the 1995 season? Answer: not a whole lot except make Tony Romo out to be a GOD and - get ready for this - pretty much SUCK. But then people like YOU come around to remind us all of the ‘pies’ “glory days” which all happened over two decades ago, now. Thank you for living up to the Wal-Mart Cowpie “fan” reputation for not being able to resist telling everybody just how great the Cowpie organization is (WAS).

I have one to add, since this thread has been resurrected and my post has been addressed point-by-point:

I hate the Cowboys because their fans are mouthbreathing illiterates.

I know the education system in Texas is hurting, but I assume they teach English. Capital letters, commas, periods, complete sentences, and sentence structure are GOOD things. God will not smite you for not being stupid, though apparently He will for learning about evolution.

Thank you ever so very much.

:smack: my response is? doesn’t matter to me what they haven’t done
Dallas doesn’t have to worry bout no titles, like Jacksonville, Carolina,
Philly, Buffalo, Arizona, San Diego, Atlanta, Tennessee, Houston,
Cleveland, Detriot and Cincinnati

players come and go glory lives on even if no other player
wearing that star has been able to achieve it

No expiration dates on the Lombardi title

mouth breathing 2 words not 1 whole word and yes I get it,
I can talk, and back up what I say, you whine and talk smack
achieving nothing in the end

We hate them because their fans are like you.

This almost reads like poetry. Maybe a haiku…

You whine and talk smack
Achieve nothing in the end
While I prove your point.

Excellent you continue down your little road of fantasy hate and I’ll just
continue to comment and set the record straight

only point I prove is my own, please be
clear about that…this is 1 advantage of
having dealt with this sort of crap before

nothing is really a surprise, nothing jumps
out just the same spew, followed by the same
sets of facts that everyone just loves to hate

Just sayin’ that Cowpie fans don’t seem to be able to admit that the 'pies have NOT been the paragon of excellence that they want to believe they’ve been throughout their entire history. Until about 1985, yes - they were certainly one of the league’s top teams. Then they suffered through 5 straight LOSING seasons before fleecing the Vikings for all those draft picks and then winning 3 S.B.s in 4 seasons (not bad, even I have to admit). Since then, though, they’ve been pretty much like most other teams in the N.F.L. - they’ve existed, and they haven’t done much. For over TWO DECADES, now. Meaning? That for over two decades the Cowpies have been pretty much like every other N.F.L. franchise - no better, no worse. Whether Cowpie Wal-Mart “fans” want to admit that or not.

If fans want to rant and rave over Romo and 2 playoff wins be my guest…
i’m not into discussing mediocrity and celebrating it like others

remember they need a bed time story that makes them rest easy
at night. I am more than comfortable knowing that any season w/o
a super bowl win isn’t a season worth discussing

But the ones that did result in titles I am more then glad
to discuss. those are the ones who deserve it, not the ones
who fail

I’m a Steelers fan. In case you missed it in math class, 6 is greater than 5 (Lombardi Trophies) and 2 is greater than 1 (head-to-head Super Bowl victories). My favorite team has achieved more than yours. Tough luck for you.

Incidentally, did it occur to you that hating another team is irrational on its merits? You’re coming in here trying to refute something that is by its very nature irrefutable. People tell me I take it too seriously. I even start my own thread about the Steelers every year. You’re making me seem sane and rational.

yea yea I heard all the news bout you being a steelers fan and Dallas is
still considered better…anything else?

I’m sure we all value your opinion.
