why is Alec Baldwin still here?

Because every disenfranchised voter counts, Zebra.

Exactly. Who the fuck cares anymore.

You ought to be worrying about our huge deficit, or your countrymen dying in Iraq or whatever.

Instead, you’re whining about some actor or singer not moving out of the country. Really people, there are much bigger things to be upset about.

It make me wonder tho…

When celebrities endorse this or that candidate, does it do more harm than good to whatever cause they choose to support?

Frankly, I can’t imagine why anyone would take Alec Baldwin’s political views into account when voting. Or Charlton Heston’s, or Martin Sheen’s.

Right. Because no one in this thread is actually thinking or worrying or bitching about ANYTHING except this.

Why not just C&P this message into every benign Pit thread if it matters enough to you to post it in here?

How can we expect actors and singers to be true to their word anyways? We sure as hell don’t with politicians.

Because this rant apparently irks me enough to post in it about how worthless it is. Other rants don’t irk me as much.

Paul Daniels, irritating-beyond-belief magician said the same thing about leaving the UK if Tony Blair got re-elected.

Alas, and alack, the fucker stayed put.

You mean you don’t read and comment on every thread in the Pit? WHAT KIND OF A CRITIC ARE YOU?

Oh yeah. One of those who actually has a life. CURSES! Foiled again.

Um, back on topic…Alec Baldwin got to nail Kim Basinger repeatedly. Doesn’t he get a few extra points for that?

Wait. Kim Basinger sucks. What am I saying?

Apologies to one and all. I keep making the mistake of posting while sober.

Alec Baldwin lied. Fibbed. Well, that settles it, as far as I’m concerned. If he should run for any political office, however minor, I will not vote for him. Can’t have that sort of thing amongst our leaders, now can we?

How many interviews does Alec Baldwin do in a year? Hell, when he’s heavily promoting his latest movie, how many does he do in a day? 90% of them are probably for magazines or TV shows he (or you, or me) has never heard of. And after doing twenty of these in a day, right after getting off of one jet and right before getting on another, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he ended up saying something he didn’t really mean and totally forgetting about it right afterwards.

Menocchio “Talented actor” ? *::guffaw:: *

Yes. Yes he does.

Ohhh… I know what I’m gonna be thinking about in the shower later!

Oh, and regarding the comments that Baldwin (and others) may or may not have made: it is, indeed, much fun to point at people after the fact and say “Ha, ha! Butthead!” But c’mon, people say all kinds of stuff in the heat of the moment that they don’t really mean and haven’t really thought through. God forbid that someone records everything that I say and expects me to stick to it!

(I will still snicker and call Baldwin a Butthead, though… even if he never said that he’d leave the country. It’s the little things that bring me enjoyment!)

Alec Baldwin is very pro-gun control, and yet he has movies that glorify gun violence. The Getaway is a good example.
I guess it’s okay as long as he’s making a bunch of money.
Why should anybody believe what he says?

Yeah, but check me if I’m wrong…he’s an actor. Not the writer, or director.

See, actors sometimes play characters unlike themselves. Sometimes they seek out projects where they can play a wider range of characters. So we really can’t expect him to play a liberal, tree-hugging, tax and spend democrat in every film.

Come to think of it, there aren’t many liberal, tree-huggin’, tax and spend democrat characters in films.

Weird.

You just need to think harder.

There have been plenty of ‘liberal, tree-huggin’, tax and spend democrat characters’ in film and on television. Ever watch The West Wing? Ever see a ‘political’ movie with Warren Beatty? Ever hear of a movie that portrayed the military and/or corporations as ‘evil’ (always intent on destroying the environment, etc), only to have the day saved by idealistic little shits?
Baldwin and company are just reaping some backlash for the hypocrisy that he and his hollywood comrades have sown. Cry about the environment, then tool around in a SUV or private jet, on the way to your huge house (of course located on top of what used to be a ‘fragile’ coastal ecosystem.) Lobby for gun control, but of have armed security guards. Complain about ‘tax cuts for the rich’, when they damned well know that they could fork over 100% of their income to charity, if they gave so much of a damn.

I happen to think that some of the Hollywood leftists are fine actors and actresses. Drooling idiots in the real world, but put 'em on screen, and they are entertaining, for an hour or two.

Thank you, Brutus. You said it well.

OK, you and Caesar get your stories straight.

Is he a hypocritical tool of the pro-gun violence crowd, or is he always portraying the idealistic little shits that overcome the evil capitalists?

And notice I did use ‘film’. Warren Beatty? When was the last time THAT guy had a hit film? Oh yeah, it was Bugsy.

I think the guy you’re thinking of is Steven Seagal. Baldwin’s body of work wouldn’t lend that interpretation to his political leanings. Which was my original point. His work as an actor has nothing to do with his work as a private person in the political arena.

Obviously, there is no ‘pro-gun violence crowd’. Nor did I make any mention of the violence/sexuality/etc content in movies. But you neatly duck the issues actually mentioned. Kudos!

**

He also made that great little flick, Reds.

The issue was that there was no hypocrisy in his choice of film roles as opposed to his political leanings. It was a small issue, so I guess that’s why you missed it.

Reds??? Christ, that was 22 years ago.

Have you seen Ishtar?
