Of course you are. You are one of those annoying posters who wants to have a nice forum for you to agree with other people, forming a nice big group hug.
But of course, you want to make noises about dissenting voices and such so that you can heroically put up with them for a few days and then reminisce about that crazy poster who got banned, thus strengthening that little warm fuzzy feeling you get from belonging and feeling like you’re right about something.
The annoying thing is, you never stop criticizing the “bad” posters long enough to realize that you’re kind of an asshole too. Personally, I think you are a prime example of the type of poster that ruins communities. It’s not the assholes, it’s not the trolls, it’s not the political extremists, and it’s not the people who can’t really put together a logical argument.
Nope. It’s the people that try to police the consensus, remove the undesirable elements, and enforce some lofty policy of civility and good manners (at least for the other team) that are the true fuckheads.
Notice? It’s obvious. Also, it is the height of hilarity for you (what is cruise control?) to talk about ANYONE being obtuse.
You gave a very weak OP and a weak pitting of an obviously unpopular poster. Why? I couldn’t say for sure but if I had to guess it’s because you were feeling a little needy tonight and thought you’d get a whole bunch of people agreeing with you how awful she is. You did the same thing with Carol Stream not that long ago.
Report her posts if you think she’s trolling but since you consider “each and every one” of her posts to be trolling then you’re proving yourself to be not a very good judge of what is or isn’t “correct” behavior. Put her on ignore and STFU. Thanks!
I don’t think curlcoat is a troll. Stupid, narrow-minded, parochial? Sure. But that’s not a bannable offense. I think it’s sort of fun having some folks like her around, even if she is infuriating at times.
I don’t think Curlcoat is a true troll. She is merely an infusion into our Board of the very worst of American non-thinking. I find her to be nasty, uncaring, selfish, rude and a few other unpleasant adjectives. But I think that she is arguing–however nastily and most of the time illogically-- from an honest (to her) position. Still, she is just a piece of shit who holds disgusting–to liberals and conservatives alike-- positions. But she is still not trolling, IMO.
If we were playing kickball and I was the captain of a team, and only Curlcoat and Carol Stream were left, I’d so pick Carol Stream to be on my team! At least Carol Stream kicks with intelligence and a certain, oh, I don’t know, je ne sais quoi that my alter ego would have, if I had one.
You’re one of those asshole posters who wants to make an argument out of everything. Not everyong thrives on conflict. So don’t go throwing stones at BigT.
People need to stop beating up the OP. Regardless of whether Curlcoat is a troll or not, Curlcoat IS an asshat. That alone is worth a pitting.
Why is curlcoat allowed to troll here? Well, the bare truth is that everyone is allowed to troll here. It’s amusing to me that everyone complains about the language rules in the Pit, but at the same time the most easy-to-understand rule of the Pit–“no trolling”–is broken repeatedly and openly, and nothing is done.
Damnit, who broke the mirror and gave us four or eight years of Shodan trolling? And of course Shodan has been true to his word, and we’ve gotten a steady stream of shit from him since November.
If that example isn’t convincing enough, how about this juicy turd from Rand Rover:
RR was trolling left, right, and center in the Pit and the dude was never called on it (and I know I reported him on that very quote, and I wasn’t alone).
Let’s face it, trolling along does not get you banned or even mildly warned here. Of course, using the phrase “go fuck yourself” (as opposed to just a random “Fuck!” or “go take a flying fuck at a rolling donut” or “masturbating like a motherfuck” or “eat a bowl of dicks, you fucking fucknugget”) will send the Dream Police after you faster than Bun E. Carlos hits the backstage spread.
I don’t think she’s a troll in the strictest sense of the word. I think she honestly, genuinely believes all of the shit she writes.I don’t like her —in fact, I wouldn’t piss in her mouth if her tongue was on fire— but I don’t think she’s tossing out bullshit bait and hoping for a reaction; I think she’s just an obnoxious, hateful bitch.
No worries there. Her type only spews this type of shit from the comfortable anonymity of the keyboard. She may hate kids in real life, but she’s not going to tell any parents she actually knows that she feels that way.
To be honest, what with her hatred of welfare and insistence that social security is a bank account and not welfare (although she refuses to keep track of what she gets out so she can stop taking the cheque once it equals what she put in), she just amuses me.
She’s like the special kid in class that isn’t quite sure of when her birthday is.
Disagree. I think both are trolls. The white supremacist isn’t trying to actually have a discussion or conversation with people. He’s just trying to stir up outrage and rile people up. That’s a troll. (If the white supremacist were actually interested in having a discussion, that would not be trolling. But posting just to get people all frothy with outrage, even if you really do believe the things you’re saying, is trollery.)
If a white supremacist comes here to try to genuinely have a debate, as vile as his beliefs might be he should be treated as civilly as possible. If a white supremacist comes here just to fuck with the darkies and their friends, he should be shown the door as quickly as possible, just like any troll.
Similarly, if a poster adopts a position he doesn’t believe, but comports himself civilly while debating that position, then that’s not trolling. That’s devil’s advocacy. Someone taking a position he doesn’t believe in just to fuck with people, that’s trolling.
I don’t think sincerity of belief has anything to do with trolling, but instead one’s motivation in posting is the driving force. If curlcoat really believes what she’s saying, but words it as nastily as possible just to get a rise out of people, that’s trolling.
It’s also why I have so little respect for anti-liberals and anti-conservatives. A conservative may hold sincere, rational beliefs, but when all he wants to do is fuck with the liberals, he’s trolling.
On a message board, these are functionally the same. Motivation for what people post can’t be determined with any certainty. What they actually post, can.
