Why is it a good idea to reprise Battlestar Galactica?

…'cause Hollywood religious allegory sci-fi is rare.

(Though unfortunately the print market is glutted with crappy Mormon allegory sci-fi thanks to that hack Orson Scott Card).

I agree with the hack part, and he seems to like to write about naked children, but I’m not familiar enough with LDS to know about alleory; have you an example?
Thanks,
CP

The original Battlestar Galactica was brainless goofy fun. Occasionally, even good brainless goofy fun. A soulless CGI-poisoned remake does not sound like it’s going to be fun at all … but will almost certainly still be brainless. Brainless and not fun; not a good combination.

(Reminds me, in fact, of Space: Above and Beyond, which sucked hard enough to clean carpets…)

It is a good idea to reprise BG because it will make everything else on the schedule look good by comparison. The SciFi Channel killed Farscape and Lexx for the reverse reason.

Hack?

HACK?!

Oh, if only I could have one little molecular detachment device…just one Little Doctor, it’s all I ask, is that so much? I’d show you “hack”…

Admittedly, pretty much everything he did that wasn’t Ender-related was kinda lame. And some of his stuff is annoyingly religious. But the Ender stuff more than makes up for it.

What is the number one movie in the country right now?

What is the number two movie in the country right now?

If you don’t know the answers are S.W. A. T. and Freaky Friday.

Remakes are seen as a safer investment than new stuff. Plus the worst part of the old BG was the flight scenes. Sure they were great the first time you saw them but they had a set of flight scenes that were used over and over and over and today makeing new flight scenes is a snap.

How do spaceships look “Gay” (rainbow colored hull platting, computer has a lisp, or it has a fab-u-lous reactor core?) and where can I buy one?

If I get my cable back in time I’ll tune in to see how bad it is.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the memories.

 As long as we’re traveling down memory lane, check out this original TV Guide ad for the 3 hour pilot.

Think they’ll have socialators in the new mini-series? And since the powers that be have played around with gender switching(Boomer and Starbuck are female), maybe there would be male sociolators.

Personally, I think the new Starbuck isn’t female…instead he’s a crossdresser now…as revealed by the series special twist ending (in a nod to Sleepaway Camp).

Well, I see that the new Galactica, like Enterprise, will have a panda.

Q: When Apollo jumps the cross dressing Starbuck in the pilot’s lounge to eliviate the sexual tension between them, does he make him shout “By Your Command”?

Poor cylo-Panda, that light so inconveniently at crotch level and that see-through dress. You’d think a former VS model would know better, but I suppose there’s a reason the Cylons never invented slips. The old Cylons had metal skirts, lights didn’t pass through 'em.

Half the ads for this show make it look like some sort of porno flick. Weird, very weird.

No, we’re not. It was called Firefly.

What we lack are non-brain-dead studio execs who know how to promote and nurture good science fiction.

I read the guy who is playing the new Commander Adama pretty much came out & told fans of the original series to “not watch the new miniseries.” I’m not sure the producer was too happy about that.

They now have two types of Cylon: Updated bad-ass android type, and vixen bimbo type. Think they’ll have some studly bimboy Cylons? Nooooooo.

His “Tales Of Alvin Maker” series is an allegory on the life of LDS founder Joseph Smith.

His “Homecoming” series is an allegory of the first portion of the Book of Mormon. In fact, he came under fire for this, because never before had the LDS church seen sci-fi Mormon allegory, and they didn’t know what to make of it. He made an eloquent defense (perhaps still available on his website), and now things have cooled off.

And there will have to be fan fic n’ slash too.

Betcha can’t wait!

Actually, the Cylons, with their complete deadpan, had some hilarious lines.

By why-oh-why? Still, i has to be better than Firefly.

Now, Buck Rogers- if there is plenty of skin-tight spandex & sexy costumes, that could be a hit. At least for me, anyway.
