I have been stuck on 58 for almost a month, despite making lots of posts. Is this a common problem?
I feel cheated!!!

hey. its just gone up to 59. Maybe its cured itself. Its always the way, make an appointment with the doctor/car mechanic and have to explain “well it made this funny noise YESTERDAY”
Did you read the FAQ thread in this forum?
yes - I didn’t see anything covering my problem?
Did you see the part about all the posts from 7 December 2001 to 11 March 2002 having disappeared?
I was only really counting from 11 march - I have made over 30 posts in the last two weeks, but my counter has not crept up by anywhere that much. Oh well, it seems to be behaving itself now.
I see. I was confused when you said “almost a month”. (Not to nitpick, but it was 14 days.) No one else has reported this problem. If it reoccurs, please let us know.
At the time of writing, the poster Wackjob is listed in this thread as having 0 posts. Quite clearly, he’s posted at least once.
Actually we’ve seen a couple of other anomalies of that sort. I can only guess that the server burped, and some parts of the database were updated, but not others? I don’t know what the layout of the database is so can’t say for sure.
PS I’d have to go look up exactly how mySQL handles transactions in the database, but even then, without looking at the source code, it would be hard to tell why some data made it to the database and some didn’t. Perhaps the process of making a post is made in more than one database transaction.
Confirmed with jdavis, our IS support person - sometimes due to the large demands placed upon it, the database does not complete the full set of inserts/updates needed to create a thread/post.
