Why is Sarah Jessica Parker pretty?

Like Rubystreak showed in her pictures, sometimes she is really, really pretty; and other times oh lordy.

Sometimes I used to watch S&TC and think my god that is one gorgeous woman and other times I cannot believe they actually filmed that day and didn’t burn the tape in terror. Sometimes she was HIDEOUS on that show. Sheesh she was the exec. producer; why didn’t she trash some of that video? She looked like she had been up smoking & drinking for 2 days straight and then pulled an outfit out of the Goodwill reject Dumpster.

Her smile is very beautiful and warm and genuine, and her eyes do sparkle. I am not a fan of her hair when it’s that big messy unbrushed style and she ought to quit bleaching it or at least get rid of the 5" of roots. But when her hair is done nice, it’s beautiful.

Actually, that’s my go-to “Why SJP is hot!” picture. No way does she look manlike, which is I guess is what you mean by “tranny”.

She is undoubtedly what the French call jolie-laide, defined as: a woman whose facial features are not pretty in conventional terms, but nevertheless have a distinctive harmony or charm.

I feel the same way about Anjelica Houston and a few others.

I thought she was hot when she was younger, especially in Steve Martin’s *LA Story * (1991). She simply has not aged well.

Beat me to it. I liked her in *LA Story * but when I next saw her years later she looked fashionably emaciated, drawn and far less attractive.

Why is Sarah Jessica Parker pretty? because apparently people’s opinion varies, because there’s no conceivable way you can use ‘ugly’ to describe Drew Barrymore.

I reject the notion that SJP has succeeded because her body is attractive (it is) and her face is not (she’s not ugly, just normal lookin’) on the grounds that the Skinamax hills are full of women with butts you can bounce a quarter off of, great legs and great racks, but have faces that do not match their bodies’ opulence. It takes a little more than that to 'splain why SJP is all over the newstands and the other actresses can’t get roles that don’t involve them taking all their clothes off and lying underneath some guy. Or gal.

Which brings me to my next point. I do think SJP is unsexy. That’s because she won’t do nudity. I think Jessica Alba is unsexy for the same reason. I think if you’re really hot and sexy you’re gonna want to get in there and sex it up in your roles, push things to the edge, like, say, Jennifer Connelly or Rose McGowan or Jaime Pressley, all pretty good actresses who’ve dune nudity and sex and done them pretty durned well.

I think SJP does well because she does a good job of projecting a self-motivated, strong woman who’s also nice and fun. That’s why she gets those rom-com lead roles. And I respect SJP, because of a story I heard about her in the movie “Striking Distance.” Seems that when she signed up for the role, her agent put her standard no nudity clause in the contract. But the director, Rowdy Herrington, and the male lead, Bruce Willis, thought she should do a nude scene. So they tried to talk her into it. But she refused, saying, “Read the contract, boys, no nudity.”

I generally like nudity in movies, but my feeling in this case was “good on Sarah.” If it were so all-fired important that SJP do a nude scene, they should have paid a little attention to that nudity clause in the contract. What dumbasses. She stood up to 'em and made 'em feel it. Good for her.

So I have mixed feelings about SJP. I think any director who hires her for a role where you really need an actress who can bring the sexy is a fool. But she’s OK for chick flick rom coms like ‘Failure to Launch.’

once the clothes are off it’s just sex. not sexy.

C’mon. There are some people who wouldn’t be sexy even if they were butt naked. Sexy is not just about how many clothes you are or are not wearing.

She is not pretty. I remember her in a movie with Bruce Willis where I thought she had a kick-ass body, but she is not a pretty woman.

Of the women from her show, the only one that I think is attractive is Kristin Davis.

Man, only one comment on that? I thought it would be total flamebait.

I think Drew would draw a similar mixture of opinions. Her personality is goddamn adorable. Her smile is fantastic. Body, pretty hot. But there’s something really really odd about that girl’s cheekbones…

She’s not. Plus, there’s that screech/noise that she makes. It made certain episodes of SITC completely unwatchable.

Then why can’t you be sexy with your clothes on?

Sometimes I think she’s attractive. Other times, she’s Roger Daltrey in a dress.

I agree with those that say she has the “attitude” that makes her attractive.

When I lived in NYC, there were lots of women like her running around - they might not have been the most physically attractive people in the world, but they knew exactly what worked for them. They had the style and energy that just made them seem like they fit in wherever they were.

When Streisand first became popular in the 60’s, there was not a single article that didn’t mention her huge nose. Back in those days, interviewers would actually ask her all the time, “Why don’t you get a nose job?” Babs was honest and said she had considered it, but was afraid it would affect her singing voice. Image the uproar now if she ever had a nose job.

Hard to explain exactly, but let’s just say some people (men included) have learned to make the best of what they have and turn it into a complete package that not only works, but makes them attractive because of those flaws.

It’s The Emperor’s New Clothes. Hollywood keeps trying to tell me she’s pretty, and I ain’t buyin’ it.

hook, line and sinker :o plus, plus, i know BIITEOTB and all that, but when magazine girls are described as ‘ugly’ and ‘unsexy’, where does that leave mortal women?

exactly.

Another attitude vote.

I remember reading an article about Mae West once, who other than big boobs really wasn’t that attractive: bleach blonde, often double chinned, tiny (officially 5’2 [studio bio] but actually a hair under 5’0) and just not classically beautiful features, BUT (said the article) “she was sexy because she by-God said she was”. I totally understood what they meant, because that’s true of several women- they’re attractive because they act attractive. Other women who aren’t pretty in the conventional sense that I consider knock-outs “because they by God say they are” (or at least because they act sexy and thus somehow become sexy) include (imho of course, all sexiness being subjective, and the fact I’m gay may be relevant but I can think of guys who’d fit this categeroy as well) Kathy Griffin, Barbra Streisand, Queen Latifah, Whoopi Goldberg (I know that a lot of people agree with the “you shoooo is ug-ly!” line from Color Purple, but I’ve always thought she was hot), Glenn Close, and Diane Keaton.

The only thing remotely unattractive about her is her nose. Otherwise she’s a beauty. And I respect the fact she didn’t get a nose job. Good for her. She looks great to me.

I think she is pretty and I actually kind of like her nose. Her body is nice but she actually might be a little too “ripped” for a chick. I mean she almost has a freaking six pack!
