Why is the board's clock running two minutes slow?

Okay, I’ll give you that.

Senegoid, former Unix System Administrator and later a programmer of a DOS-based app, who had occasion to note that a computer with one clock always knows what time it is, but a computer with two clocks is never sure.

Why is the clock running slow? The answer’s obvious, isn’t it? The Halrequin felt sorry for the hamsters and just happened to have a few jellybeans left over from his last stunt.

Right. A week is minimal. And this is a server, so startup could be even longer than that. Ideally, you don’t want to have to have a scheduled restart every day or anything–unless you have multiple servers, that means time that the site is down.

7:48.

(But mostly posting to subscribe.)

I’m trying to think of a situation in which the discrepancy would make a difference for the poster. Besides those that prompt this scintillating thread.

Time warping on the edit window, now that’s worrisome.

Are you by any chance on a spaceship in FTL drive?

It is 9:04.

The boards are running four minutes slow, ATM. My local time is 3:19 am. The forum says 3:15.

It’s 9:44 Am. All has gone to hell.

time test: Posted at 1:11 Eastern time

Clearly this is a defective product. Might we get at least a partial refund on our membership fee as compensation?

Update: Five minutes slow now. Seems to be losing 1 minute per month.

G-d damned, lazy hampsters!
:dubious:

Are the servers located in Chicago? Maybe something unexpected happened at Fermilab, and we’re observing a time dilation.

12:30 GMT. Lets see if there is a difference.

edit: Huh? It says 6:25, so the board’s clock is 5 minutes out!

I blame climate change.

What has Obama done about this?
Not a damn thing!

I don’t think it’s Obama’s fault that the SDMB server cannot cope well with keeping time…

I think the SDMB admin needs to fix the problem! :o :stuck_out_tongue:

And is Obama helping? :dubious:

I’ll bet Trump could fix it.

Right you are. Obama has had almost 8 years to fix it and what has he done?
