Why is Thumbshots eating my posts?

I tried to reply to a thread, typed in a reply in the quick reply box at the bottom of the thread, and clicked “Go Advanced”. It took me to http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/newreply.php?do=postreply&t=559053, but all that was there was the link Thumbnails powered by Thumbshots (that text and that URL). My post was gone, and after clicking “back” in my browser, there was no text left in the reply box. All gone.

This has happened to me before. What’s the deal here?

No idea, but it looks like it’s an issue local to your computer. Try a different browser.

That was a problem with an early version of wierdaaron’s SDMB Optimizer script. I haven’t run into that problem since he claimed to fix it.

You’re right. The Thumbnails powered by Thumbshots link is at the bottom of every SDMB page when the script is running. With the script turned off, I just get a completely blank page for that reply link (which I guess makes sense now, but not at the time). I don’t see how the script caused the initial problem, though.

On preview: I just got the “can’t post because token is expired” when I selected “Go advanced” on this reply, and after hitting “back”, the original post was gone (fortunately, I thought to copy the text first). I suspect my original problem was the same basic problem, without the expired token notification being displayed.

I had opened the thread last night, then hibernated until this morning before trying to reply. I suspect that’s the cause of the expired token problem.

Well, I can’t fix it directly, but there’s a plugin called Lazarus Form Recovery that can help. It will save everything you ever type in a text box. You can tweak the settings where it will only keep it for a few minutes or where it will clear every time you restart Firefox.

I used to use it all the time back when the SDMB would go down all the time.
