Why no Sharon Stone Pitting?

You know…

Toot Toot!

Chugga chugga.
Ah-ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-ga

Damn. I fell right into it and pitted her. To make up for my error, I’m going to go look at two nude pictures of Natalie Portman. Maybe three.

That’s right, Natalie, there’s no paparazzi on this beach. You can take your top off.

Link!

Well, according to elucidator, we are ‘conservative gadflys’ who delight in ‘pricking the hypocrisies of the left’.

Keeps us right busy, it does, given that so many on the left seem to be of the ‘Do as I say, not as I do’ philosophy.

Still, standard operating procedure?

If you can find an example of me starting a “Why aren’t you oh-so-hypocrical libs expressing outrage about…” thread, I’d like to see it. For that matter, I’d like to see one started by Shodan, too. Hell, I’d like to see you come up with even ten posts out of my five year and 5,600 post history in which I even bring the subject up.

Betcha can’t. (And thus I’ll be looking for an apology and a retraction. We are supposed to be fighting ignorance here, you know, and you just spread a bunch of it with that post.)

apologies that i just saw this thread.

Fact: The earthquake devastated vast regions of the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Nationality Autonomous Region of Sichuan province.

That’s right, in terms of square footage, the Tibetans have suffered the most. In terms of sheer loss, the Tibetan related minority group the Qiang had their entire homeland destroyed. The most densely populated Han Chinese area has the greatest loss of life.

The earthquake and all the aftershocks have taken place on the foothills of where the Sichuan red plain collides with the beginning of the Tibetan plateau. One side is all Han Chinese, the other side up until about 30 years ago was predominantly Tibetan or Qiang.

There are also Chinese that blame the earthquake on the Dalai Lama (as in the big guy caused the earthquake).

There has been almost a complete lack of press coverage on the ethnic breakdown of the earthquake zone.

Sharon Stone is an idiot and confirmed geographic moron.

Wait a minute. Wring’s a girl? Why didn’t you say so, you bastard? Bitch, I mean.

She used to influence my erections, still does from time to time.

<golf clap>

Who says the title wasn’t descriptive? I saw it’s also about “Why isn’t it already pitted?”. My point is that it’s idiotic to whine about other people not pitting things you dislike before you happen to do so. If you think something needs to be pitted, just fucking pit it.

If you think Stone should have been pitted earlier, why didn’t you do so earlier? Why do you think others have more responsibility to pit things than you do? Why do you think anybody has any kind of responsibility to pit anything?

So it is now two actors spouting nonsense that I paid no attention to that seem to upset those of opposing political persuasion. Any more? Maybe it is just me, but other than the movie/TV show/recording/book/etc., I pay no attention to anything else the celebrity personality does. It’s only when it’s forced down my gullet (like what happens with Hilton or Spears when they appear at the top of the news rather than in the 2 minute entertainment blurb) that I even know they exist outside of their work.

I’m shocked, SHOCKED to find that Sharon Stone’s bottom line is less about making a point and more about Sharon Stone’s bottom line.

Aaah! Glad to see I’m not alone.

In the RR (Short Line and otherwise) comments referred to in the OP, I think there are few elements that contribute to the overall outrage factor. Not every element outrages every poster, of course, and not every element appears in Stone’s comment.

There’s the “God exists” element. There are some (by no means all) outspoken atheistic posters who respond to such sentiments with a sense of disdain. Others (by no means the rest) tend to roll their eyes.

There’s the “God takes action against things he doesn’t like” element. Claims of concrete supernatural intervention tend to up the rolleyes/derision reaction. Not only expansion in atheistic/agnostic quarters, but also many theistic/spiritual people don’t accept the notion of direct action by the Big Guy/FSM/IPU.

There’s the “God hurts the innocent” element. That not only is God taking action, but also he’s punishing otherwise innocent people merely for accepting/living in a situation that they have little to no control over. This is extremely offensive to many people’s concept of a diety/higher power.

Lastly, (though there are probably others I’m glossing over), there’s the “God hates fags” factor. This is a major difference between Stone and the Reading RR. Interventions aside, I don’t think people would be as outraged if someone said “God hates child molesters.” There could be theological discussions (can God hate anything?), but I daresay there is outrage at someone positing that God hates something that is not loathsome to the poster. Not that has to be gay to feel this way, just that the poster rejects the apparent hatred of gay people, and reject the use of God to justify such believes.

Stone’s comment differs on this element in that there are widely held, arguably legitimate grievances against the government of China for their treatment of Tibet. Her invocation of the supernatural aside, an expression of vitriol at China’s treatment of Tibet differs from an expression of vitriol against homosexuals in general.

This is not to say that Stone isn’t a flake for many of the above, nor excuse or explain her statements. I’m merely trying to address the differences in reactions noted by the OP. As I noted, there are other differences, some touched on upthread (e.g., comments made by someone perceived as spiritual leader v. someone mostly famous for exposing her cooch to Newman).

Newman, or Douglas?

Newman as in “Hello…Newman. Wasn’t Wayne Knight in that scene? I was, you know, a little, um… distracted.

Ah. I thought you were confusing Michael Douglas with Paul Newman. Sorry.

I’m not going to get banned by posting a link. But if you go to Google Images and search using the term “natalie portman beach nude” (make sure your SafeSearch if off) you’ll see I’m not making this up.

We all know the punishment for China’s Tibetan policy, their poor human rights record and their horrible environmental record is to be hosting the Summer Olympics.
