Yes, that sick joke did do wonders. It managed to offend everyone but the most thoughtless of posters. There’s something called “tact”. It’s when we say or not say things depending on the situation. Your friend seems to have none of it. Neither do you, for that matter.
Like I said (re-read it), this situation was one in which just about any joke was fair game (up to and possibly including one asking if, apart from that, you enjoyed the rest of Thanksgiving at your mom’s house).
Look, you did something you’re not proud of. You went to MPSIMS to feel sorry for yourself and alleviate guilt by 'fessing up. (I won’t get into what I think about that forum because it’s getting off topic and I should just not read it if I don’t like it anyway.) You experienced a human weakness and human emotions. You then did a human thing and unburdened your soul to others for sympathy and support.
Your fatal mistake was doing it here. You unloaded your shame in a public place full of people whose only commonality is that sometimes they like to fight ignorance. We’re not your best buds; we aren’t sworn to uphold your self-esteem. I think you got a pretty good deal: some genuine sympathy, an off-color joke, and some rationalizing that you needn’t feel bad before it devolved into Whorin’: Pro or Con?. Anywhere else and you’d have some 14 year-olds calling you an ugly fag, moral indignants tsk-tsking you, and a psycho putting your address in his anthrax out-box.

However, that being said, I like to hang out in MPSIMS, because it’s a nice, friendly place. Dead hooker jokes are neither nice, nor friendly. They are offensive. That doesn’t preclude people from laughing at them, but they are still offensive. As are racial jokes, dead baby jokes, and stupid blond jokes - people laugh at them all the time, but you don’t find them in MPSIMS. Had it been in the Pit, I never would have said anything, but as it was in a completely inappropriate forum, your argument doesn’t hold water.
Don’t worry about it non-native. It’s been my experience that people who make such a point out of saying that they have such active sex lives are telling the truth. The part they omit, however, is that it comes out of a box which has a blurb on the front stating “Realistic vibrating vagina!!!”. Adults who are adults have sex. It’s not a big deal. Anyone who makes such a big deal about “how much pussy they are getting” is usually lying and pathetically lonely. Notice he also says this:

I personally think that the reason the thread was closed has something to do with the fact that it was a very non-PC thread (i’m still putting together my thermonuclear anti-PC rant, this is how much PO assholes pisses me off). As such, MPSIMS might not have been the appropriate forum for that thread.
Why the thread couldn’t have been just moved to The Pit rather than being closed off is beyond me.
As for Gerbil’s joke, it was very tacky but kinda amusing. However, the lack of smiley might have made it seem extra mean-spirited. I guess if Gerbil had just put a smiley on the end then only a small amount of hell would have broken loose instead of the massive amount of fire and brimstone that manifested itself due to the evolution of this thread.

Same here. I sometimes think of this message board as a huge room, with music playing, and lots of small groups of people having conversations. Some groups are laughing and slapping their knees, some are huddled together seriously, some are debating vigorously, some are in the corner sneering at the others. Maybe a few hugs here and there. People are free to mingle and join any conversation they want. It’s like some really rich people invited us all to their house.
But in my little vision, everyone behaves appropriately. Not that there isn’t any “dark humor”; there just isn’t any in the wrong place and time. If people are in the mood for that, they find a place where that is being done. They don’t walk up to a group of adults engaged in serious, intelligent, compassionate conversation and do a Beavis and Butthead act.
Of course, in my little vision, everyone is civilized. But that’s just a vision.

But its not. Porn is not allowed. the Reader I’m sure does not want to be responsible with providing children with access to porn.
They may have it in the ad section in the Reader, but even then minors would have to be pretty smart to avoid being caught by their parents/bill payer when the phone bill comes.
If a minor is going to access porn from google, then its the parents job to monitor what the minor is looking at, not the Reader’s. By removing one click acces to porn, the boards are covering their asses.

It managed to entertain all those posters who found your OP to be a little silly to begin with. I don’t think the person who posted that joke, nor those of us who find it humorous (and appropriate), have revealed ourselves to be thoughtless people. You may feel differently, but such is life. I think they’ve shown themselves to have a great sense of humor in the face of a not so funny subject.

If you are interested, sometimes in my life I’ve done really well sexually. These times are seperated by long periods of time with no sex. I never claimed to get as much as I want, or even alot. But since your acting like I did, let me spell it out for you, so I am no longer misrepresented. I have had alot of sex with not alot of people. I have had several girlfriends move in with me, which tends to lead up to lots of sex. The live-in girlfriend has proven time and again to be too much trouble for me. As a single I do OK. I occaisionally get laid, but I’m picky. I only like to sleep with intelligent and beautiful women. So, often, I don’t sleep with anyone except my cat.
I didn’t see anyone doing that at all.

It’s a place where laughter is more common than seriousness. I think the joke was appropriate. I don’t think it in any way encourages the use of hookers, nor harming them. I think it was funny because of how absurdly untrue it is. I must have missed the MPSIMS rule that says dark senses of humor aren’t allowed there.
Diane, cite please. All I said was I wouldn’t pay for sex. I never made a reference to how much “pussy” (as Dave so politely puts it) I get. At least not at the time WD wrote that post. I have since clarified my sex life, but I had said nothing prior to that to indicate how much I do or don’t have sex. I certainly did not brag about getting laid.
Anyhow, I don’t think it’s a big fucking deal. Maybe it’s the company I keep, but I was surprised to find out how many of my friends (who are attractive and have no need for hookers, IMO) have occassionally slept with prosititutes. I myself was weirded out by my experience, as I mentioned in my original thread, but it was an interesting experience and in a certain strange way, I’m glad it happened. Although it certainly did tweak me at the time. I also thought I would never pay for sex but being in a country where prostitution is so commonplace and the women are so hot, well, I decided to give it a shot. They certainly don’t look like the hookers on Archer Avenue in Chicago, that’s for sure.
Point is, I don’t think it’s a big deal nor do I think it necessarily “foolish.” as dj does. I was surprised at how many females I’ve talked to didn’t find this that bizarre. Then again, some of them complain about the lack of gigolos here.

And since there seems to be some confusion about links with nudity vs. pornography, I’ll make it very simple, even for the dim. Links to both nudity and pornography (using any commonly accepted definition) is forbidden. If we see it, it’ll be deleted. Period. The call is made by the moderator on the scene. You don’t have to agree with our decision, but you do have to accept it.

Nah, this alone isn’t a big enough deal to me. But it can get frustrating trying to get an answer to why things are, or why things were done, when those ‘up above’ aren’t willing to clarify or simply answer an inquiry.
Not answering, or replying, or whatever, to posters criticisms or simple questions regarding board administration, sends the wrong message- it sends a message that it can’t be explained… it just is because it is and be quiet about it.
But when you, a moderator, can elaborate on what or why something was done, and point to a policy (Either written or otherwise), it can help all involved get things straight. At least that’s the case in my humble opinion.
That’s not me. Why do I get the feeling that nobody ever reads what I post? It’s not the database; when I look at a thread, there’s my name, right next to the stuff I wrote. Is everybody else seeing something different?
