As for WB, I’ll miss him. A very little. He reminded me of an old shipmate, a happy-go-lucky kinda guy with a genius for starting arguements. He’d pop-off some bizarre assertion, and watch the fur fly. He was always happiest to be in the heart of the fury, and seemed to enjoy himself immensely, even when he lost (which was most of the time). When he could be at the core of the fight, he was almost equally happy to pour gas on someone else’s fire. He was jerk, to be sure, but things were always more lively when he was around.
I love Wildest Bill. He and I always got along well, even though we always disagreed and I repeatedly informed him he was an idiot. With (IIRC) one exception, I always defended him in Pit threads about him.
I still think the mosquito thread in GQ has got to be the most creative use of misspelling ever witnessed in the history of mankind. I think I found seven or eight spelling/grammatical errors in the title alone (more errors than there were words!), and yet it was still semantically meaningful.
Such incredible mastery of the English language is the sign of a deep, burning intelligence.

Well, I’ve been needing to not spend so much time at these boards. Finding out the Wildest Bill was banned because he went close to the edge of troll territory a lot will make it a lot easier.
Damn, Bill’s gone, huh? Oh well. I kinda liked him, but he’d definitely worn out his welcome at the end of his time here. Anyone who can piss off DDG has got some serious issues.

No, I’ll go way out on a limb and guess it was when he said he wished Guin’s kitten a speedy death in a thread in which she was obviously under a high stress level and in a lot of anguish. That pretty much a prime example of breaking the “don’t be a jerk” rule in my eyes.
Also, I don’t think you’re a sock. I am having trouble figuring how you’re trying to deflect criticism from Infidel, though.
Fer fuck’s sake. I don’t usually get involved in these debates, but I’m sick of seeing people jump to the defense of trolls like Wildest Bill. Granted, he was like a low-level ache that finally got so annoying that something had to be done, but this doesn’t change his actual trollishness. He posted shit that he knew was out of place. He posted shit exclusively to enrage people. He did these things repeatedly. Granted, he was a nice person sometimes, sometimes he was amusing, etc. But he never made a coherent point. He never won a debate that he started. He was a burden on the boards. And he broke the cardinal rule of the board about being a jerk and all.
I think that this place by-and-large is a wonderful community. I think that that fact is due solely to the vigilant mods. I also have a world-view for the board (call it a board-view). There are 2 forum descriptions that contain the word “Cecil” in them: CCC and GQ. These are directly related to the Straight Dope column, and are therefore the reason for the SDMB existence on a site owned by the Chicago Reader. GQ and CCC are also the fora in which newbies first arrive. Therefore, they need to be the neatest, to serve as a guide for behavior on the rest of the board. GQ presents a big problem because of its volume. I think that the motto should be “Fuck around in GQ, go the fuck away.” Other fora, you get leniency in – warnings are issued all the time in GD and in the Pit; MPSIMS is all about leniency. But GQ and CCC are “sacred ground.” They are the church to the Pit’s biker titty bar.
Call me a killjoy. WB fucked around in GQ. He goes the fuck away. His previous record only worked against him, but his previous record was the dull ache with which you can live. His fucking around in GQ was the burning sensation that makes you go to the doctor.
Now wait. I did say that I’ll miss laughing at his incredible alleged stupidity-(I’m still not convinced he was serious). BUT, that said, I don’t mind that he’s banned-he deserved it. He KNEW he was gonna be banned, and now he’s going to slink back to any other boards he posts at-I believe Pizza Parlor and maybe Left Behind?-with his tail between his legs and say how he was made a Martyr.

He’ll admit to being a sock
He’ll defend himself for breaking the rules because he just wants to say goodbye, and that’s not really against the rules, now is it?
He’ll claim he was banned unfairly, and everyone is out to get him, because he was right
He’ll say we’re bad Christians
