I did not mean that his apology was an isolated incident, but rather the fact that he posts these knee-jerk, fly-off-the-handle, highly insulting, bashing threads that require apologies isn’t isolated. I dare say he holds the record for starting such threads.
Even if he apologized for every thread he’s started, the fact remains that he keeps posting them anyway. At some point, gratuitous ignorance becomes painfully obvious, and it’s obvious that he hasn’t learned a damned thing in the entire time he’s been here.

Speaking of knee-jerk, I’m going to assume you haven’t read any of WB’s earliest posts lately, have you? I daresay that WB has learned an incredible deal. And if you were to start a thread asking him what he’s learned, I would wager a guess that he’d politely respond.
Regardless of how frustrating he may be, he brings a perspective that no one on this board has brought, to date. The fact that he speaks contrary to most poster’s general/personal philosophy does not take away the fact that WB is still an actual person. If every thread in Great Debates was nothing but everyone sitting around saying “Good point!” and “I entirely agree!”, this board wouldn’t have much of a future.
If you’re speaking of anywhere in this thread, I’d like to see a quote, as I haven’t seen any faith-bashing here.

On the one hand, I agree - differing opinions are valued and necessary for debate. However, when it’s the same person over and over and over again, ignorance is not being fought. The fact that he happily wears the title “Village Idiot” speaks volumes. Hell, even Silo* changed after his Mike Masterson days (although, sadly, he’s backslid quite a bit into his old ways since his banning). I’m not seeing that here. Again, YMMV.
Do I hate him? No. Does he annoy the shit out of me? Yes. Am I the only one who feels this way? No. Are you the only one who feels your way? No. Life goes on…

And yet, nobody seems to enjoy them more than you do. My immediate and surprised reaction, when perusing his threads, was that the one name that inevitably came up in every controversial WB thread was “Esprix.” Time and time again, often long after the horse had been beaten to death and its corpse smashed with a hammer, in you’d come, enthusastically kicking the late equine, usually throwing around the nastiest insults in the (non-Pit) threads for good measure.
So I admit that I’m curious as to why you’re complaining about Wildest Bill train wrecks when you seem to love rolling around in the debris.
It’s not immediately obvious to me that YOU’VE learned a damned thing since you’ve been here. We don’t keep tabs on that sort of thing, do we? Or is there an exam I missed? Anyway, I certainly noticed a change in his attitude over time - but then, I went back and did some reading of his stuff, which you did not. He’s not exactly Winston Churchill with the written word yet, granted, but some people’s writing skills are at remarkable variance from their intelligence and smarts. I would not assume he’s a reactionary idiot because he expresses himself poorly on the SDMB, which is not to say I know he’s a genius or anything. In fact, I know a few people on here personally who don’t come off like themselves at all, and to think you can accurately gauge the worth of a person’s character - or their humanity, as some have tried in this thread - is the absolute height of idiocy. I sure wouldn’t assume, based on the limited scope of the SDMB, to assume that this poster is an inhuman monster, or that poster is an irrational, panic-stricken fool, or that this poster over here is a nihilistic nutjob, or that this poster here is a self-righteous, preening asshead who only thinks to whine about their lot in life and obsess about sex and getting laid. Or consider me; I know I come off as a total ass; in RL, I’m only partially an ass.
All that doesn’t change the fact that Wildest Bill DOES come up with some of the dumbest OPs in recent memory, excluding the genuine article nutbars (who I propose be referred to forevermore as “Wingless Shuttles”) but I will say this in his defense; he’s come up with more GOOD, interesting, well-replied-to threads (especially in IMHO) than anyone, by a factor of 100%, easy. More than you and I combined, I’d bet. That’s good value for my time and effort.
I think I’ll use this as my new sig. What a hoot!

Apparently. Appreciation threads go in MPSIMS, not The Pit, for a reason - you can’t bash in MPSIMS, so they stay appreciative. Bad call on the OP’s part.

Why, I do believe that someone around here, whose initials are not dissimilar to W.B, is greatly enjoying the attention he gets in this thread, and he returns many times to make sure this attention continues. Ad nauseum.
Just to clarify for shits and grins: Bill has on several occasions commented that my writing wasn’t sexy at all. Until now, I’ve refrained from pointing out to him that my handle does not indicate that my writING is sexy, but rather the writER. That was the point of my comment. It seemed like there might have been some confusion that I’d misread Bill’s magnificent post in which he suggested that I bite him. How many calories are in a pile of shit anyway?

The only change I’ve seen is pre-empting his posts with, “I know I’m going to get bashed for this, but…” I hardly call that improvement, but hey, at least he’s learning precognition through experience.
I’m sorry, but “let’s nuke the towelheads,” “all lawyers are scum,” “liberals are destroying this country,” ad nauseum isn’t “expressing himself poorly,” it is, in fact, the indications of a reactionary idiot.
OK, that I can believe. 
Do I think all of Bill’s posts are worthless, irritating and/or half-cocked? No - the fact that he’s gotten so many responses on some of his topics are obvious proof of that. But the idiotic ones are so far over the edge that they vastly overshadow any “normal” ones (for lack of a better term). Hell, if anyone understands reputations around here, I do believe I could be the poster boy, as I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve been called a One Trick Pony[sup]TM[/sup], regardless of what the facts of my posting history might prove otherwise - Bill ought to consider that. And how long did it take before Silo changed his tune and people stopped seeing him as a troll? Months, IIRC.
And I wouldn’t go so far as to say Bill’s posted more entertaining/interesting threads than anyone else, but yes, he has provided some, on that I would agree with you.

It was not a bad call on my part to put an apprecieation thread in the pit, it was a deliberate act. I wanted to target all groups in regards to Bill, and what better way to appreciate the one some considered a stupid troll than to bash him?
He wins both ways here… everyone gets to show their appreciation, in whatever form that takes. MPSIMS only tells half the story… The Pit tells all!

Actually, my perspective was made crystal clear on Tuesday, thank you very much. The clarity came from a series of events that happened very much off these message boards. Perhaps you’re familiar with them.
I’ve seen the face of evil up close and personal. I met evil personally. My fucking apartment still smells like evil, and my office building is covered in inches and inches of the debris of evil. I’ve spent the last couple days gathering ice for the victims of evil and the people helping them. I’m a ghoddamned expert on the subject of evil.
As a result, I’ve tightened my standard of with whom I’m pleased to be sharing a species.
