In GD (not MPSIMS or The Pit, where I might take it as a pathetic attempt at black humor) you suggested that murdering old people is better than murdering babies. (I assume you mean fetuses since you suggested that Pro-Choice people want to murder “babies”).

Even if I’m charitable and assume that you mean this as an attempt at Swiftian satire :rolleyes:, your assumptions are so bigoted as to be beyond belief.

I know a number of old people and have just recently lost a grandmother. EVERY old person I know is worth more than you.

I’m sorry to admit that I used to be a fan of Bill’s. I agreed with almost nothing that he said, but he was fun and interesting, if difficult to take sometimes. But lately, he seems to have really gotten much worse. The old people thread is clearly troll material. I’m ashamed for him. I wish it was possible for Bill to be ashamed of himself.

He’s either a real idiot (but much like some of my relatives), or he’s a very clever troll. I’m starting to lean towards the former, as I don’t think a clever troll would troll so quickly and so obviously again after the recent warning.

It seems to me that posting that thread was WB’s not-so-subtle attempt at, as Fenris put it, Swiftian satire (and I would bet my entire net worth that Bill has no idea what that phrase means).

I can’t believe he would post such an inflammatory thread only a day after being warned specifically not to troll. one thing I’ve noticed about WB’s posting behavior is that he opens a lot of threads, but rarely contributes to threads already started. It seems less trolling than a dimwit’s desperate cry for attention.

I know alot people that have no children and would like to have one to. Or how about alot of brothers and sister that never had a brother or sister because it wasn’t convenient at the time.

You don’t know how many people I have employed but I know one thing I couln’t have employed any if my mother decided to make the wrong choice.

In agricultural societies, old folks are still teachers and baby-sitters, allowing the farmers to work longer hours and bring in more food, so in agricultural societies, old folks don’t just benefit the family or tribe, they benefit the whole society!

In industrial-revolution societies, old folks are less teachers, but are still babysitters, allowing two people to work outside the home, allowing the parents to keep their family out of company-owned abject poverty.

In post-WWII American (and maybe some other) societies (The Nuclear Family), old folks, with their life, social, business, and family skills, are thrown-away! (put in retirement homes or institutions) This is mostly because for one brief moment, we were so prosperous that we didn’t need two incomes, and women took over the role normally handled by the aged.

In post-modern society, we’re again begining to remember that the aged are people with skills, capabilities, and knowledge. Maybe we’ll remember it well enough to make longevity a survival trait again.

And then we can afford to stuff ingnorant wretches in the dumper.

Most us (including me) post from work during slow time. I lift weights, play with my cat, snuggle with my BF, read, visit the Smithsonian on weekends, and so on.

I will address one point of this drivel to the rest of the Straight Dope: Please note how, once again, Worthless Bill has decided to shift responsiblity from his actions. Apparently his belief is that if he posts inflammatory, bigoted, evil drivel and gets banned, it’s someone else’s fault. Just as all the lawsuits he got slapped with were someone else’s fault, the time he had 7 cop cars chasing him were someone else’s fault, and on and on and on. Apparently, the concept of responsiblity for one’s actions is a completely foreign concept to Bill.

Why would someone as mindless and non-productive as Bill suggest that OTHER people are useless? Is there some reason that Bill finds that it’s HIS duty to decide who is the most valuable on this planet.

I am one of the lucky few who got to realize how valuable the old people in my life were BEFORE they were gone. I knew three of my great grandmothers (and only lost the first one when I was 27) and both of my grandmothers, as well as both grandfathers and a great grandfather.

Those people provided for me. They provided for me emotionally, psychologically, and sometimes financially. They were good company, taught me a lot, and their stories were never as boring as Bill’s. They were (and some of them still are!) wonderful, useful, productive people. My 80 year old grandmother still does volunteer work at the hospital and substitute teaches. My grandfather just wrote me an e-mail yesterday to see how I was doing and tell me how his farming is going this year.

How someone as completely lobotomized as Bill could take it upon himself to make generalizations about those people is beyond me. It’s about time for a cranial/anal inversion if you ask me. Actually, it’s long past time. What a fucking useless moron.
