Will I give Donald Trump a chance? Pit version!

What a silly notion. Either Trump will do the job or he won’t. Trump has made it perfectly clear he doesn’t give a shit about my opinion. All I am is another pussy he can grab.

The SCOTUS nominations are really worrisome. A lot of things can be changed, but those will outlive Trump for decades.

Anything he says or does I would automatically assume is for his own benefit and would harm the most vulnerable people in society. I won’t give him any chances or the benefit of the doubt ever.

I hope RBG has updated her directives to keep her alive on machines indefinitely.

If a crack-head asks me for $100 so he can invest in retirement funds through his broker, I am not going to give him a chance, because I know he’s a sad, pathetic figure who is simply lying to me to get a fix.

Same thing with Trump. He’s out of chances.

Be careful what you wish for. That is exactly how Sarah Palin got into the Governor’s office in Alaska, by campaigning against corruption.

I’ve always wanted to travel and see St Petersburg and the statue Motherland in Volgograd. So I’m going to give Trump a chance to making travel to Russia much easier. If any president could do it, it’s gotta be him.

I’ll give him a chance like I’d give a chance to an extra touchy uncle in watching my child unsupervised. Perhaps it’s feasible that there’s some way for him to prove good intentions and that he wouldn’t cause harm, but the ball is in his court – he’d have to do something extraordinary for me to no longer be suspicious and concerned. And if it happens anyway – this uncle is watching my child, no matter what I do, then I’m staying home, watching him like a hawk, with a baseball bat in my hand, that I won’t hesitate to put his lights out if he steps wrong.

I suppose in political terms that means that the ball is in Trump’s court; he would have to do something absolutely extraordinary for me to consider that he’s taking an action that’s meant for the good of the country and not for his own enrichment or aggrandizement (or that of his allies).

I’d like to give the Trump a chance
And tell him jokes and stuff
Then pull his pants down to his shoes
And chase him through the rough
I’d tie him up with bonds and straps
And check his pants for change
Then leave him out at Moose Grin Hall
With our cousin who’s deranged

I don’t agree with this. Give him a chance? Nah.

I won’t give chance to anyone who thinks nuclear proliferation is a good idea.

Someone mentioned upthread about privatization of federal prisons. Is that supposed to be a good idea?

It is for those who own the newly private prisons. Though the gold lettering might set them back a bit at the start.

Excellent analogy, and well expressed.

Politically speaking, I’m not sure that’s true. If Dems make a public show of going along with Trump in the manner you described–“We don’t like your idea, but we’ll give it a chance out of respect and open-mindedness”–and everything goes to shit, who gets more pummeled electorally? Dems get to take the high ground and say, “We genuinely tried it your way, it was a disaster, now it’s our turn.”

Whereas if Dems resist and obstruct Trump at every turn, either everything goes well and Trump takes the credit (for succeeding despite obstruction) or everything goes to shit and Dems get blamed for not letting Trump get anything done.

Now, obstructing Trump may well be best for the country. But I’m not sure it’s best for the Democratic party winning elections.

A little off topic, but interesting:

How ‘Doonesbury’ predicted Donald Trump’s presidential run 29 years ago

The writing was on the wall, or at least in the comics section.

But, but…he won the election by negative three million votes. Surely that counts for something?

My suggestion that all flags fly at half-staff throughout CA on 1/20/2017 was rejected. or ignored, by my state. And they say they listen to us.

What if it’s Trump? You know, like in O Brother, Where Art Thou?, when Pappy’s son suggests that they run on the reform platform, even though they’re the incumbent.

Could be raining!

Give him a chance? Seeing as he will be the most powerful person on the planet tomorrow, what choice do I have?

I think “Give him a chance” in this case means “Shut the fuck up and get out of the way”.
