Teenager and I saw it the weekend it came out and rewatched it this weekend. Maybe liked it even more? Laughed just as hard, that’s for sure. It gave me something that has been missing from a lot of the more recent stuff: just a good time. I don’t care that it doesn’t really expand the lore (besides the post-credits stuff) or answer long-held questions. I had genuine fun for 90 minutes.
Agreed X1000. We re-watched it again yesterday and loved it. It’s very fun, has some hilarious moments, like when “Memory” from Cats plays.
I preferred this movie to Captain Marvel 1 by quite a bit.
Yeah the hilarity of most Skrulls getting killed off, the water world devastated with how many killed … mostly because of Danvers’s hubris and lack of wisdom …
One of the criticisms I have seen of this movie that resonated with was that the backstory around Carol being “the destroyer” sounded like a much more interesting movie.
I thought it was a fun movie overall but I found that the editing was choppy. Marvel is known for tonal whiplash where something dark and serious will happen and then five seconds later someone will crack a joke. But this movie seemed more like the editing was done in a hurry and some scenes ended up in the wrong order or were left out altogether.
Unfortunately missed it in the theater, I was hoping it would be in a nearby theater on Thanksgiving, but it disappeared so fast!! Just got to see it on Disney+, and I enjoyed it quite a lot! The flerkins were adorable (though I expected them to be used as weapons against the Kree rather than as evacuation pods, but that was also a good idea), and I liked how the three Marvels practiced the switching with the jump ropes and juggling (though that should take more time to master than it seems they had to spend). But a few question linger…
- Do Flerkins reproduce asexually? What triggered Goose to suddenly start laying eggs?
- Why was Kamala back to having only one bangle/quantum band at the end? She had both when she channeled energy to Monica, but after that, she was only wearing the one she started with.
- Was the musical planet supposed to be a Bollywood thing, and if so, was that meant to be for Kamala’s sake? Do Pakistanis have a similar cinema culture to Bollywood? From what little I know of Pakistani-Indian relations, I doubt Pakistanis are into actual Bollywood movies.
- I like the Young Avengers tease (and Kamala quoting Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man was masterful), but how far away of a build is that meant to be? There’s no movie titled “Young Avengers” in the known plan (though I suppose they might be the Avengers of the planned Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars movies).
There was a Bollywoody scene in the Mrs. Marvel series, too, not to menton Bollywood stars in the cast.

Also Bollywood features in the comics at least once.
Carol had the other one.
I hadn’t noticed that (obviously) but…why? I thought the bands were “seeking Kamala out” or some such? Why wouldn’t she be keeping both?
AFAIK, Bollywood films are big in Pakistan, even though they were banned from legal import for a long time.
It helps that spoken Hindi is fairly mutually-intelligible with spoken Urdu. And that some of the biggest Indian movie stars are Muslim.
I suppose partly as a security measure. That way if someone steals Kamala’s band, they don’t get the full power?
I watched this yesterday. I am generally a big fan of the marvel MCU. I liked it more than I expected because the Disney+ series didn’t wow me. I do remember thinking that Iman Vellani is very engaging as an actor.
The Ms. Marvel character is a little confusing to me. Her power is the ability to turn light physical? And she doesn’t need the bangle to do it? (IIRC at the end of the Marvels this happened…) Why did Dar-Benn have different bangle powers? Or was it just in the usage?
Her power in the comics is just stretching, like Mr Fantastic or Monkey D. Luffy. It was changed, either because stretching powers look weird AF in any form but comics/cartoons or because they didn’t want two people with the same power set in the MCU and they are certainly planning on bringing the F4 in. So now her power is turning light physical as you said, green lantern style. She is also a mutant, which might be where her actual power comes from.
Looks like we are getting a step closer to my dream scenario.
Jeff the land shark and squirrel girl are quite popular in the just launched marvel hero shooter “Marvel Rivals” so I can see their popularity reaching the mainstream.
I liked this movie. It it be a shame if this movie isn’t popular, I’d really like to see a Young Avengers/ Champions movie somewhere down the road. Also a tease to a future X-Men crossover? Sign me up.
I mean, it already bombed.
I’ve heard some movies do surprisingly well overseas But you’re probably right
Right, this came out in 2023. It made around 84 million domestically and 121 or so internationally, for a total of around 206 million. Lowest of any MCU movie and definitely did not turn a profit.
On a budget of $307 million!
And now the latest episode of What If? is entirely about Howard the Duck. My cast is coming together!
