Yentl. I LOVE this movie.
Seconding Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. “Hi-hoooooo!”

Erik the Viking, but it looks like the answer is - “Yes, this blasted movie will be on DVD Dec 4th.”
The 1980 TV production (of the stage show) with Kline is available on DVD, although not the 1983 movie version with Kline.
I’m amazed that Chaplin starring Robert Downey Jr. isn’t available.
It appears you can get it on Region 2, but Netflix doesn’t carry it.
This is exactly the one I clicked on your thread to mention. I was just looking to see if was out again last week.
There is also an old Olivia deHavilland movie (“Introducing” Richard Burton) titled “My Cousin Rachel” that I’m always looking out for.
Oh, and “The Magnificent Ambersons.” It seems like Criterion could do a great DVD including the production and altered ending of this… but I keep waiting to see it.
Chaplin was indeed released on DVD. http://www.amazon.com/Chaplin-Robert-Downey-Jr/dp/0784011680
Picket Fences. They’ve released other bullshitty shows in huge box sets, and this? I’ll strangle for them…
I’d like to see a complete boxed set of Spalding Gray’s monologues. A lot of them are available separately, but it would be nice to have them together:
“Swimming to Cambodia” (may be out of print now)
“Terrors of Pleasure” (I only saw this on television)
“Monster in a Box”
“Gray’s Anatomy”
Guest appearances in other films/television programs
I don’t know if “It’s a Slippery Slope” was ever filmed
Still waiting for “Max Headroom”
Texas Across the River An old Western Comedy movie with Dean Martin and Joey Bishop.
I have a Jimmy Buffet Concert released on Laserdisk that was recorded in Miami years ago and featured Timothy B. Schmit of the Eagles sitting in on Bass guitar.
I’m at work so I’m guessing it was called Concert by the Bay or something. I’d like to get it on DVD so I wouldn’t have to drag out my old LD player every time I want to see it.
I’d buy that. A friend of mine is in it, plus I love Kevin Kline.
Me, I am waiting for Dogs in Space. There are DVDs of it out there, but I’m pretty sure they’re illegal copies made from the VHS release.
Mine’s another Kenneth Branaugh comedy. In The Bleak Midwinter, which also appears under the title A Midwinter’s Tale, is the story of an unemployed thespian who, in order to feed his artistic soul, attempts to stage a production of Hamlet. In two weeks. On a shoestring budget. With seven actors. The cast of the film is top-notch, the banter and backbiting are hysterical, and the characters are at once familiar to theater types without being cardboard cutouts. Every time I watch this movie, I have to stop myself from dashing off to the nearest audition.
Thanks. When i did an Amazon search from IMDB earlier, it only brought up Region 2 versions.
And i’m still perplexed as to why Netflix doesn’t have it. I put it on my Netflix list ages ago, but it’s still listed as unavailable.
A movie i’d really love to be able to buy in proper widescreen format, with good subtitles, is the 1996 Vicente Aranda film Libertarias, about a group of women in the Spanish Civil War.
The film is available on DVD at Amazon and on Netflix, but the Venevision release available at those places is a poor transfer, and the lovely anamorphic widescreen of the original has been butchered to fullscreen.
Not a movie, but I wish they’d RE-issue Mary Martin’s “Peter Pan” (someone has posted it to youtube, though–better than nothing). It was on DVD at one point, but it’s no longer available, and used copies go for more than $100. Cathy Rigby’s DVD just doesn’t compare.
Netflix has it, and I rented it.
Has anyone noticed that Netflix makes available thru the “instant watching” function some flicks that are not available for rent or purchase as disks? One that I watched that way 6 months ago is “Sinful Life,” which is still sitting in my Saved section with an unknown release date.
I can’t see why movie studios don’t release EVERTHING in their catalog. Even the most obscure films would sell a little bit, and the cost of digitizing it is very little. And once digitized, it could be put on disc or used in the future with other methods of delivery which would be even cheaper.
Yes, adding extras would be nice, but they would add to the cost. If it came down to having the raw film without extras, I would take it.
If I could download the worst, most obscure film for 50 cents, I wouldn’t hesitate one bit to spend the money. It wouldn’t take many such downloads worldwide to rake in the profit.
Add my name to the list for Duckman. Why would Zappa’s estate be involved? Wasn’t Dweezel (not Frank) Zappa the only connection?
I’m also waiting for Bye, Bye Braverman, Goodbye Charlie, The Committee, and The First Nudie Musical, all of which I have on VHS but some were taped from cable and the quality isn’t high.
Look it up.
Can I make you a bit jealous? Hubby & I have 3rd row center tickets to see Chazz Palminteri do it as his one-man show on Broadway in about 3 weeks.
I would like to see the complete set of Carol Burnett. ALL of it. I grew up watching that, the only night of the week I was allowed to stay up.
The wait for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is almost over, thank Og. Whether it has been worth is remains to be seen.
What about the Star Wars Christmas Special? Anyone know where to find that on DVD?
