Will this offensive ad by a Hispanic group hurt or help Trump more?

Well, starting a discussion by calling that “the wonderful Hispanic culture” is right away a misrepresentation and poisoning of the well, in reality many do agree with the sentiment against trump but not with the way this PAC is doing it.

Indeed, just a perfect example of nutpicking that the right wing does, it is good to put down moves like this, but it is clear that the spin is to assign this clumsy and self interested effort to all Hispanics that oppose Trump.

See my previous posts. In this instance the people in the video are ostensibly speaking for the Hispanic community. The degree to which that is the case is the degree to which they are speaking for the Hispanic culture. Whatever degree that is.

Nutpicking again, as even more liberal groups from the Hispanics can tell you, they are not speaking for all.

No, I don’t. It was clear from your OP that you were pissed off about the cited ad in particular, not about Hispanics in general. Which is why I was rather surprised and repulsed that you chose a thread title that gratuitously and irrelevantly attributed this “sad tactic” to “Hispanic culture” in general and unqualified, with a bonus sneering reference to its “wonderfulness”.
Why not clean up the unintended mess by requesting a mod to change your thread title to something more on-point for your actual topic, such as “An Offensive Attack Ad From Anti-Trump Latinos” or something like that?

And while you’re at it, maybe you could also request that the thread be moved to the Pit, since you seem to have started it pretty much just to complain about this ad.

Not me, nor my wife. By any measurement I’d be described as a liberal and I hate hearing kids swear in such situations. I’d be pretty judgemental about parents who encouraged their kids to use that language in that situation (and moreso that they seem proud enough of it to post in social media)
I don’t swear in front of my kids or anyone elses. Simple good manners. Kids need to learn that words have power and if you use them all the time then you are left without a “cunt” up your sleeve for when you really need it (like just them).

He loves the Hispanic people and they love him, he keeps insisting. They do such a *great *job cleaning the rooms at his hotels. What would he do without them?

Oh, that wall thing … And the rapists thing … And the drug dealers thing …

I’m interested in the debate I posed. But I do think your other suggestion is a good one:

Could a Mod please change this thread title to “Will this offensive ad by a Hispanic group hurt or help Trump more?”

I’m also contacting a mod directly to do this.

Perhaps you didn’t read what you quoted:

Emphasis added. For, you know, emphasis.

If it were me, I’d have called him a pendejo a few times as well, to really bring home the hispanic culture. If you like I could re-script the whole thing to really show some hispanic culture to you.

:stuck_out_tongue:

How do you know those kids had those words put in their mouths? I’ll tell you that my own relatives don’t have a very high opinion of Trump, and kids that age certainly know what those words mean, use them among themselves and hear their parents talk about these things. While I expect my own kids to show more respect in public or when we have guests over I’m under no delusion that they don’t know those words or use them.

shrug I thought the video was pretty funny, to be honest. It’s certainly no reflection on ‘wonderful Hispanic culture’ however, and the fact that you would make that connection (tenuous as it is) is kind of strange…at least wrt a response in GD.

Nah, I think kids should curse more. Maybe if they used them often enough, elegant ladies would get over it and be able to move from the immediate vicinity of their fainting couches.

And this little slice of wonder bread knew how to curse just fine by the time he was their age, thankya.

And your condescension for a Hispanic (me) does show where are you coming from, of course I did read it; but I also can use the internet and see where your spin is coming from. It is clear that my point stands:

“Indeed, just a perfect example of nutpicking that the right wing does, it is good to put down moves like this, but it is clear that the spin is to assign this clumsy and self interested effort to all Hispanics that oppose Trump.”

Emphasis on the part you missed that shows that I also did agree with what you emphasized (that it looks more like a fig leaf now when one looks at the context), but I’m also saying something else too, besides noticing your poisoning of the well from the start.

Unless you have evidence that this degree is very high, I don’t see why you’d want to attribute it to an entire culture.

If you watched the video, you’d know that they did.

For those who might be interested, the video has the kids “speaking”, but you can tell it’s a voice-over dubbing, not the kids talking. And there are subtitles in Spanish.

I give it a 1 on the “meh” meter*. Pretty stupid, but harmless and nothing out of the ordinary for a political season (is it ever NOT a political season in the US now). Plus, it only has about 100,000 views, so it’s hardly “making it’s way around the internet”.

  • 0 = yawn, 10 = meh

I am a little amused at the thought that a crude video might push people to vote for a dude whose entire campaign (not to mention business career) is based around bad taste.

Well, you got me…I only watched the first couple seconds since I’m at work and it started off with (to paraphrase from memory) ‘Fuck you Donald Trump, you racist fuck!’…at that point I figured it was prudent to shut it down until tonight. :stuck_out_tongue: If you are right that it’s dubbed, it’s even more a meh than before.

Glad they called him a pendejo though…that makes me feel better about it.

That is “making it’s way around the internet” is courtesy of very conservative sites, that indeed are just dedicated to the relentless pursuit of the nutpick to outrage their readers and viewers.

I think you do.

So fucking what?

I could make a video claiming to speak for all 54 yr old, gay, atheist, white, morbidly obese, mentally ill men living in San Francisco and it doesn’t mean a fucking thing.
Oh, this video will make zero difference in the election. By next November there will no doubt be tens of thousands of videos about the candidates for President, some funny, some thoughtful, but most will be stupid & idiotic.

Sorry, I didn’t mean for that sound so snarky. It’s not surprising that most people are not going to actually watch the video (it’s really stupid), so I just wanted to point out that they did have that base covered!

Which I did not do, if you would read the OP. Granted, I see how the title could mislead (which is why I’ve asked a mod to change it), but those aren’t the only words on the OP.
