Will Trump Announce his run for 2024 on November 15th?

This makes a lot of cents. Bigly.

He’ll announce the new Social Truth Party, taking his base with him, making Don J. automatic vice president and Eric in charge of sharpie and paper towel roll supplies.

I would love this just to see MTG’s head explode.

I’m still hearing rumors he is announcing that he is running.

For president, not from the law.

Expect today that he will announce his bid to run again.

Expect tomorrow a lawsuit challenging his eligibility to run, on the grounds that he participated in an insurrection.

It will be “YES! I hereby announce that I am ruining for President!”

Hopefully he’ll be primaried. I would think his shtick of eviscerating his primary opponents, like he did in 2016, was a one-time phenomena, since he was less known at that time. Now he has a lot of baggage, not least of which is the constant losing. More losing than has ever been known before for the GOP - three elections in a row. I mean, looking at the mid-terms, I just don’t understand why - because his brand and picks did so well? I guess there are still people out there who think he did a swell job as President and deserves another shot. SMH

I have very little doubt he’ll announce a 2024 run during his “big announcement” tonight, despite the fact that I can see no upside for him whatsoever in announcing this early. It won’t stop investigations or possible indictments. It will curtail certain avenues of fundraising that he has enjoyed. It likely won’t stop other challenges from joining the race later in the electing cycle. Many, many Republicans are imploring him to hold off until after GA runoffs are finished, so he risks angering them, etc. And the RNC will stop paying his legal bills.

The RNC’s executive committee last year confirmed it was paying for certain legal fees “that relate to politically motivated legal proceedings waged against President Trump,” and in recent months the committee has funded Trump’s defense against probes launched by Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. (D) and New York Attorney General Letitia James (D).

Oh, but there is something VERY important to him that he gets by announcing now - the spotlight.

There you go using logic again. The only thing Trump cares about is what strokes his ego, and getting in front of crowds and running gives him the adulation he desperately needs, and unfortunately, that will never change.

His primary opponents should all develop derogatory nicknames for him, and start using them right away. There are plenty to choose from.

“Loser Donnie” has a ring to it. And if Trump interrupts, just say “Shut up Donnie. You’re out of your element.”

You know, I might almost consider voting for the first Republican to say that to him in a televised debate. Almost.

We have a winner! Trump announced he is running in 2024 tonight. I haven’t seen anything about splitting off from the GOP for those who thought that would happen.

A televised debate suggests primary opponents. He had zero in 2020 and I doubt he will have many more than that this time around. Maybe Pence, Cheney and Hogan, not sure who else.

DeSantis is going to sit this one out. I’m certain.

I think that totally depends on how the next couple of months unfold.

If Trump’s attempts to take over the news cycle and mainstream social media (i.e. TwitFace) fall utterly flat, DeSantis will be all in to kill that wounded lame duck. Or if FBI / DOJ really put the hurt on Trump now, and he’s indicted a lot.

OTOH, if suddenly it’s 2016 all over again and every news channel is suddenly the 24/7 Teflon Trump channel, DeSantis will decide now’s an excellent time to stay governor and move FL hard right instead.

DeSantis’ term as the Governor of Florida is up in 2026. He can’t run again for Governor until 2030. If he tries to unseat Trump, and fails, he is likely done in politics since Trump will wound him too badly.

If he does unseat Trump, he is unlikely to win the general election for President due to all the damage Trump will do on his way out. Again, he s done in politics since somebody else will be well-seated as Florida Governor by then and DeSantis will only be seen as a Loser.

DeSantis’ only way out is to drop out, hope the Democrats win the presidency in 2024, and be ready and relevant for 2028. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go after Rick Scott’s seat in 2024 in order to stay relevant.

ETA: Fix dates.

Interesting and logical analysis, and makes sense. A wild card could be DeSantis’ ego, which would defy all logic. I don’t have a good measure on that, however - does he seem like TFG: thin-skinned, addicted to mass adulation, can do no wrong?

Considering that DeSantis was once an ardent Trump supporter, it’s hard to say whether he will fall in line or offer the GOP an alternative. It depends a lot on his ego. If everyone tells him he can beat Trump in the primaries and then beat Biden or whoever in the general, he might be willing to take a chance. I think there are Republicans who would be open to a change in leadership.

DeSantis would be in stronger position, ready for eight years in the WH to torment the libs. Trump would be limited to a single-term, lame-duck presidency. I think DeSanits could beat Trump in a primary, for that reason alone.

Very true. DeSantis is fresh, dry powder. TFG is stale and moldy.
