Will you pronounce your screen name please?

Flan (rhymes with “man”) - der (rhymes with “her”).

Where’s Throatwarbler…

Carried, like the verb.

on Dasher, on Prancer and Vixen!

Lewd-uhh-vick.

an-nee ecks-mas.

ZIP-ur Jay Jay

Gwen-a-staze-a.

Blow a raspberry (by which I mean actually go through the act of sticking out your tongue and blowing to create a raspberry or zrbt kind of sound.) That is the pronounciation of pbbth.

Dud-lee Gah-ret

And I wonder how many of you will actually make that noise every time you see pbbth’s screen name from now on

I don’t think I need to do mine, but **Eonwe ** would technically be **Eönwë ** and we should be able to get the exact pronunciation out of the Redbook of Westmarch.

The Eö is not a standard diphthong, so I would expect this to be three syllables in all. There are also six diphthongs: ai, oi, ui, ae, eu, iu

Hiatus, a vowel following one without making a diphthong, are fully pronounced and sometimes indicated with diaeresis (double dot above the vowel.) The appearance of Hiatus (ä, ë, ï, ö, ü) in words is to show that the vowel isn’t silent, but fully pronounced.

The ö & ë would normally be long.

So I get “E’ on we” all vowels being roughly long. Stress on the first syllable.

Jim (EE “Doc” Smith never included a pronunciation guide, so I leave **QtM ** to him)

I’m glad you showed up in here, because I have often wondered.
BEE-duh-lin.

Rhythm Devil

(Probably already known by most Deadheads and a few percussionists)

aNAAmika, with the two a’s representing a long a.

Some people say it "AnaMIKa, making the a’s short…which is cool by me, but not correct, since you ask. Think of it as two words, really "AnAAM’ which means "without a name, and “ika”, which basically comes out to be “she”. (Not 100% true, but close enough.)

She without a name. Anonymous.

Throatwarbler Mangrove
