Willing to GM a Diplomacy game-using the 1900 rules

I’m not interested in Vanilla-I’ve been itching to try this variant for awhile now, so decided to see if there’s any interest. The rules are the same as normal Diplomacy, with some special rules for using the Suez Canal and a few other odds and ends.

In short, I think this map is a lot more balanced than Vanilla’s, fairer, and more exciting.

Drop a note here if interested.

I eagerly await pummeling from whichever heads of state also sign up.

Well, it seems it’s a reunion of wevets’s game from a few years ago. I’m interested.

I’ll be spectating very enthusiastically! Unfortunately I’m juggling too much in real life to give a game like this the time it deserves.

OK-will keep bumping until we get seven.

I’m interested!

What kind of schedule is this going to be on?

I’ll play. Are we playing on the board or using an alternate site?

Sounds like fun. I’ve got some spare time coming up, but if this thing’s likely to take more than four weeks, I need to factor in a two-week holiday the second half of August.

Well, the last one we were in took four months.

I’ll be leaving for mine soon after that. We can postpone the game until Sept., if everyone’s game (pardon the expression), tho I at least could probably GM it off of my smartphone and/or any computers I can access along the way…

While I am perfectly fine doing this by hand, any recs for sites or software which can handle this mod would be appreciated.

Count 5 so far…

Tentative schedule: Would one a weeks work, or be too slow? Or would 3-4 days to ponder, pontificate and parley work better?

I’d say maybe a week for the first turn, because extra time might be needed for negotiation, then switch to a turn every 4 days. Take a break as needed for people who go on vacation.

Any other ideas?

@ John - jDip was very helpful software last time we did this. It comes in versions that work on PC, Mac, or Linux. I would strongly recommend it over just working out turns on paper.

I’m pretty sure jDip was what I used when we played last time. I used it to simulate turns during my planning - it’s a good program.

It might not work with the special rules of 1900 (esp. the around the horn travel rules). Like I said I can do it by hand, as I’ve done before.

With the new expanded PM message allowance, we might be able to do all press here.

So far we’ve got (confirm or deny as needed):

wevets
AClockworkMelon
Vercingetorix
XanderCrews
Malacandra
(?)

Looking forward to Peanut Gallerying this!

Our last game was also a variant, and it there were maps for it. I’m pretty sure the 1900 one is more popular than the one with Egypt. But hey, if you want to do it by hand, by all means.

A word of advice to players in this thread. If the game is anything like proper European power diplomacy then you have two main results. Either everyone gangs up on Germany, or, its German hegemony over the continent. Never underestimate the power of The Hun. Oh, and never completely trust the Irish. They will rise up at your greatest moment of weakness.

It also just occurred to me: Playdiplomacy.com supports the 1900 variant and is, I think, free to play.

So if you don’t feel like doing it by hand, and/or want to join in, John, we could do it that way…

I may not be reading this correctly, but it looks like the 1900 map is only available to premium members.
