Failing any of the above suggestions, have you tried power-cycling the cable modem? I had this exact problem (I have a cable modem as well) when I got a new W2K laptop, but just switching off & on the modem fixed it for me. My cable modem senses the type of NIC on the machine it’s connected to and caches its settings until you power down.
