Windows cursor poblem

has anyone else been having problems with Windows the last month? When I place my cursor on email/link/box, instead of opening up I get popup boxes (back, reply, save link menus), and then continues to popup 4-5 times until it gets tired and then lets me open. any solutions or advice?

I’ve had some weird problems on my work computer that seem to have to do with how the Control key behaves. While Ctrl+[keystroke] is well known for shortcuts, Ctrl+mouseclicks also take on new and weird functions. Long story short, Ctrl+Alt+Del clears it up, something to do with clearing the keyboard buffer.

Is this a desktop with a traditional mouse or a laptop with a touchpad?
When you say “I place my cursor on…” are you just hovering over it or clicking?

It’s hard to say with the limited info, but I think my first guess is that your mouse is broken. It almost sounds like, if you mean ‘click on’ when you said ‘place my cursor on’, it’s registering right clicks instead of left clicks. If you’re just hovering over something and these popup boxes are showing up, maybe your mouse is randomly left clicking.

Also, that it only happens a few times and then works properly, would also lead me to believe that it’s a problem with the mouse itself.

Does it happen only in a browser or in other places around windows.

If this is a laptop, do you notice any other oddities with the mouse? A previous laptop of mine was having all kinds of touchpad issues. When I finally pulled the computer apart to replace it, I found that the mouse was fine, but the battery had blown up and was pushing against it from the bottom. The slightest touch, even just near the mouse, would register as a click.

If this is a desktop with a regular mouse, make sure it’s charged, maybe try a different USB port and assuming that makes no difference, try a new mouse. In fact, if it’s a laptop, you could plug a mouse in as well.

Of course, replacing the mouse could fix (or hide, rather) a software problem. But if it stops happening, that’s as fixed as it needs to be.

thanks. If I place my cursor on blank space I get popups on my desktop.

And these popups…what are they? I know you said ‘back, reply, save link menus’ but I’m not entirely sure what that is. Back would imply a browser or windows explorer, reply is something I’d expect to see in an email application, I think ‘save link’ shows up when you right click on a link.

Is it the context menu that you’d expect to see if you right clicked in that same spot?

I guess at this point we should clarify something. Ignoring that it’s happening when it shouldn’t be happening, are these pop ups something you’d normally see within Windows or is it possible you have some type of malware on your system?

for instance when i clicked reply in your email i got popup that listed back, forward, send to etc; when i click search in Google get popup listing emoji undo … before i could even type

Ignoring that these are popping up when they shouldn’t be, are they otherwise normal things you’d expect to see.

For example, if this suddenly popped up on my computer, my troubleshooting would send me in a specific direction because, while it shouldn’t have popped up, it’s a typical context menu for what I’m doing.

.

Are you seeing something like that or something entirely out of place?

Maybe a screenshot would be helpful, as I’m not really understanding what’s going on. And I’m having trouble parsing some of your sentences, ie “when i click search in Google get popup listing emoji undo”

sorry for delay, ordered new mouse that fixed the problem. Thanks for your advice
