I’m afraid I’m a total dolt when it comes to computers and stuff. Please be kind.
I had to reformat a while back and ever since then, I can’t play a lot of videos with WMP. Here’s what I’ve done before starting this thread:
Downloaded the newest version, 9.
Made sure the “connect to internet” option was checked.
Dumped the damned thing altogether and downloaded it again.
Now, some videos play. But none on CNN or say, this one. In these situations, a link to download a plugin is shown, but it’s a link to download not just a patch, but the entire media player.
I have no idea what’s going on. Any help would be deeply appreciated. I hope I’ve included enough info. If not, I’ll be more than glad to help with that. Oh, I’m running Win98 SE, if that helps.
I do use Firefox. When I open a page that has those video links, Firefox tells me to download plugins needed to view them. So I click “download plugin” and it says that it can’t find the plugin needed & do I want to do it manually? And that leads me back to the “download WMP 9” thing. I just go in circles with it.
I also failed to mention that I’ve tried figuring out the problem on Microsoft’s troubleshooting site.
Are you using any Firefox extensions? This page suggests possible problems caused by Adblock. If that doesn’t help, see if the plugin restoration method on this page does anything.
