In a little over an hour I’ll be off to the hospital to have my labor induced. Baby Nightingale (Sam) isn’t technically due until Feb. 23, but my blood pressure has gotten kind of high and I’m REALLY swollen, so the doc is going to induce. Things will get started tonight and then really get rolling in the morning.
I’m excited, but also kind of nervous, especially since this is our first baby. Any Doper prayers, good thoughts, etc will be greatly appreciated. ( I know the power of the SD collective consciousness )
We’re home! Ended up in the hopsital longer than I expected, due to having a C-section late Monday night. Sam wasn’t in quite as big a hurry to get here as we were to have him, and after fourteen hours of labor we decided we’d waited long enough. He is beautiful and healthy at 7 lbs 6 oz and 20 inches long. He looks like his dad from the nose up and me from the nose down. See pictures here (Samuel S. born Feb 1)
Thanks again for all the warm thoughts and wishes and please keep them coming – I’m a new mom and have no idea what I’m doing!
Well, if it’s any consolation, most new moms have no idea what they’re doing. But you’ll do fine. Trust your instincts, ignore most of the well-meaning advice that you get, and enjoy motherhood - the baby days pass way too fast!
Y’know, because my mom had five daughters in 13 years, with me being the youngest, I was only eight when I became an aunt for the first time. Then my sisters just kept poppin’ out babies, one after the other. By the time I had a kid, I’d been an aunt eight times over. Because I’d been changing diapers since I was eight years old, I figured I knew how to take care of a baby! Hah! Turns out no one really knows how to take care of a baby! Even if you’ve already had one, you think you know what you’re doing, but the second one is totally different, and there goes your head start! Fortunately, babies are much sturdier and more resillient than they appear to be!
Congratulations! He’s beautiful! I don’t want any more babies, but I sure am enjoying looking at every one else’s.
Congratulations and good luck! That’s a great name you’ve picked- depending on “who” he is, it can be Sammy, Sam, or Samuel. Not too common, not too rare, easy to spell. Also not a name that leads to playground beatings.
