The whiter, more Jewish, more Hollywood half of the team that created the groundbreaking sitcom has died at the age of 60.
MWC (and its predecessor, ‘IT’S YOUR MOVE’, which also starred David Garrison) had its up and down seasons but overall remains one of my favorite shows that I never fail to watch if I come across a rerun. Its views on marriage, its genuinely funny and affectionate joking about gays and African-Americans, its invention of a true American hero whose life never again reached the heights of the fateful day he scored FOUR TOUCHDOWNS IN ONE GAME!! are often underestimated today. Dozens of sitcoms squat in Al Bundy’s balding shadow.
Another nice obit here, and a page of priceless MWC quotes over at IMDB.
Goodbye, Ron. I’ll even drink a Bud in your honor.
