I seem to recall Chris Pine exploding in the previous movie, and if he miraculously survived he looks awfully good for a man who, in 1984, would be about a hundred years old.
So I suppose they have some wank as to how he’s back and looks distinctly not one hundred years old and unexploded, and once again heroism doesn’t mean anything in a comic book universe because you can just come back to life.
Max Lord does say “Now, I take what I want in return” so I’m assuming he resurrects Trevor for some nefarious reason or other. Probably with that crystal, which is no doubt somehow tied in to Darkseid in some dumb fashion.
Is Steve a vision caused by whatever it is that Maxwell Lord is ‘selling’? I was hoping for a quick shot of Cheetah but I guess that will have to wait. I really wonder if she is going to be in a costume of if they will go full furry.
I think they had to go with the action scenes to make it pop with audiences.
But what made the first movie a level above more superhero fare was that the best action sequence (the no man’s land scene) had some depth in the motivation and symbolism. I hope it will stay in that direction, but it’s hard to get that sort of thing across in a trailer.
And X-Men Apocalypse before that.
And The Watchmen before that.
I came of age in the 80s, and I think the decade has been done to death in films/TV, but I’m cautiously optimistic about this movie.
My theory is that it’s really Steve, resurrected somehow by that big glowy crystal thing Max “Also the Mandalorian” Lord is shown gloating over. Lord uses it to do all sorts of bad stuff, which Diana will only be able to reverse by destroying the crystal - which will also kill Steve again.
