Yawn. Good morning. I’m having an exciting time burning CDs. These are big files and only a few fit per CD, and I have to make two of each. Very tedious work, but it allows for much surfage. I’ve been poking around here and then I’ll make my daily stop at Cute Overload. Gotta have Teh Cute.
Last night was my daughter’s school band concert. She plays the clarinet. It’s always amazing to me how non-painful these concerts are. I expect ear-splitting horror, and it’s actually not too bad. There were several bands performing, and the high school concert band played a medley of Gershwin, which I really enjoyed.
Browsing my photobucket stock made me wonder if I’d shown you all my baby’s appearance in the World of Art. My brother-in-law paints murals for Texas Roadhouse restaurants, and this one features Little Mr. Cute. It graces the Roadhouse in Watertown, NY, if anyone lives in that vicinity!
Good morning everyone! The weather’s all icky outside but at least it’s not cold. I need some breakfast and some tea, and hopefully I’ll get some kind of work done before I head off downtown to do all that exciting paperwork.
Kotick, I usually put in too much batter, which results in a mess. Nothing wrong with an icing covered carrot pancake.
Well, it wasn’t a mess so to speak, just very thin, and with a lot of icing.
Anyway, bringing cake to work is like throwing a banana to a flock of chimps, or a peanut to a herd of elephants, or a baby seal to pack of polar bears. It was gone by the time lunch was over
Good afternoon. I know I’ve been a bad MMPer, but I’ve got Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It” playing on my Winamp, and I felt motivated. I’ve at least skimmed, so I can say the following:
Ellen, your kids are beautiful.
Hank, I think the only thing you can do for your brother is tough love. Let him realize the consequences of his inaction when you stop cleaning up after him.
Speaking of doing laundry, it seems I need to do some today. Full of grrr, et cetera.
None of you need to worry - I’ve got the video game situation covered. Just wanted to reassure you all of that. Now, have a pun:
Da swamp yard is all spiffed up. Looks good, if’n I do say so myself. I’m all bathed and purtified too. In a bit I’m goin’ for a haircut. One of the advantages of doin’ stuff for others is they do stuff for you. Haircut friend cuts my hair for free cause I help him and his partner out doin’ stuff in their yard from time to time. Plus they like hangin’ out 'round the pool all summer. I see this as a fair trade. That and when they bring beer to the pool.
Ellen I forgot to say earlier what a little cutie BabyCherry is. Are all his curls shorn now?
I am all shorn. Feels good. I also went to the store for some N.O.T. and onions. Supper tonight is grilled steak, microwaved N.O.T. and onions and salad.
The N.O.T. and onions are a simple but good dish. Peel and slice the N.O.T.. I usually parboil 'em for a few minutes just to start to get 'em tender but it’s not necessary. Peel and slice onion. Arrange N.O.T. and onions in a two to three quart oblong microwaveable dish. Salt and pepper to taste, sprinkle Worcestershire sauce all over and dot with butter (that means put several glops of butter all over the N.O.T. and onions. Nuke til tender. For me, usually about ten minutes. Serve with a big glop of sour cream. It’s really good and I usually make this when I grill steak.
Kotick, another solution to the not-knowing-what-size-cake-pan dilemma is to make cupcakes. Just a thought…
My knives are all sharp - yay! The nice young man from Cutco came over and sharpened them all, plus he showed me that 2 of my table knives need to be replaced, and he gave me the address where I can send them. That’s one thing about Cutco - when they say lifetime guarantee, they’re not kidding. I bought these knives in 1975, and I’ve had 2 pieces replaced, and I’m about to send off 3 more. Plus I’ve gotten them sharpened for free.
And I took the opportunity to buy a set of knives for my daughter. She needs some decent knives and I figure what-the-heck. I got her a little 5-piece set. It cost more than the 20-something piece set I bought way back when. In fact, to replace what I got would probably cost around $900 or so today, and I spent under $250. I sure have gotten my money’s worth outta them, tho. Sadly, I managed to lose 2 of the table knives along the way. I hate to think what it’ll cost to replace them. Oh well…
Other than that, just another boring humpday. For the first full day of spring, it’s decidedly unspringlike around here. Cold and cloudy and breezy - ick. Better days ahead - I’ll keep reminding myself.
swampy, a couple of weeks ago, I chunked up some N.O.T. and precooked them a bit, then added some chunked up onion and fried 'em up in some butter. **FCD ** was in hog heaven - I won some major points that evening. Note to self - buy onions!
Afternoon, everyone. I’ve had a bad case of Teh Blahs today, so have spent the day catching up on recorded TV shows from when I was in the hospital and knitting. I’m doing the final bind-off on my Garter Stitch Wrap! So I’ll have photos soon of my beyooootiful work, if I do say so myself.
I’ve read everything, but am feeling too blah to make comments. So consider yourself applauded, sympathized with, oohed over (Ellen, your little one is adorable!), etc., whatever is appropriate. I now return you to your regularly scheduled MMP…
A looooooong time ago **MagicEyes **posted a recipe for curry potatoes here that involved pre cooking the potatoes a bit and then frying them with ginger, garlic, turmeric, and a bunch of other stuff that I don’t remember. They are SOOOOOOOOOO good. We haven’t had them in a while. If I weren’t so darned tired from the remnants of this cold, I’d do it tonight. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow. Oh wait, we ate up the last of the potatoes. Well, I guess it’ll have to be next week after I buy more potatoes. And after I have energy again.
Anywho, the point is, if ME stops by again, she should repost that recipe. It’s really really good.
It starts in June, which is fine by me–I was hoping to NOT start it right away. (I have enough going on right now).
But I had to reschedule my podiatrist appt-- because my interview(s) ran over.
I dunno 'bout the bionic foot, but it sounds great. I’d just like him to shave down my bone spur, but he said last time that “there were lots of options before we do that one.”
All I know is that I run out of good health insurance in June, so I’ll be going to get checked out LOTS this spring.
My daughter leaves on Friday to go to France. She will be living with a French family–let me put it this way: the teenager in the family looks like he could model for Abercrombie. I think I’ll just tuck some condoms in her suitcase…
Cute! I’ve been to Watertown, NY, but not recently. It’s not a very exciting place unless you really really like snow. And not living near ANYTHING else.
Tis a job in same day surgery…you know, the place you now go to have your exploratory laparotomy or your tonsils out etc. In and out, with pt teaching and a variety of pts in one day.
I wish I could find a way to get this French guy’s pic here-he is effing gorgeous. Thick, curly, dark brown hair, chocolate brown eyes, tall, cut. <fans self>
He looks 19, not 16. My lil strawberry blonde, gray-eyed daughter is one lucky American…I swear I will put condoms in her luggage…just in case (she doesn’t even have a boyfriend right now, but…).
Congrats, rigs!! New rule - anyone who gets a new job has to bring donuts for *ALL * of us!! Boston creme for me, please.
The house stinks. **FCD ** wanted smoked kippers for supper. GAH!! It is to gag!
I may not go to work tomorrow. I’ve got a nail or hunk of wire or something in my right rear tire. I may just take the day off and get it fixed, then do some chores. Or go in late. Can’t decide…
gotti let me assure you that I am appropriately hairy in all the places I should be. It’s just my haid that’s shorn. I’ll leave it up to you to fantasize about the hairy places.
Congrats rigs! I’ll take some Krispy Kreme glazed donuts.
FCM those N.O.T. sound good and simple. It shall be tried out at the swampcave.
Supper was num! A certain somebody is very happy and most willing to show his appreciation. Thus, I shall go and be appreciated.
Rigs - YAY! on the new job. And no, you buy us doughnuts/scones/criossants/etc because that is, in fact, tradition. We were right behind you all the way, praying to Og and Gaia and whomever, so that’s how you thank us. I’ll take a simple glazed. * (I keed)*.
So what’re you gonna do until June?
I made all my pre-surgical appointments. More on my blog.
