Without question? Of course not. But I always listen and I bother to look at all the info. I do not go in with a viewpoint and try to find voices that seem to confirm what I want to hear. Unfortunately too many people in this country do just that. As for medical advice, certainly there is never 100% agreement but if 75% of experts agree, hell yes I’m listening. We live in a complex world and this frightens the less intelligent. They rely on intuition which is mostly faulty when it comes to scientific matters. We need and must rely on experts because although they are not 100%, they have a helluva better chance at knowing the correct way forward than some foll who thinks they know better just based on their own limited experiences.
We’re also on a perilous path because too many people are taking someone’s political views into account with regards to whether they’ll listen to that person’s expertise. I personally don’t. YMMV.
I could guarantee you that the car mechanics I deal with are all Conservative Republicans. Regardless, they are automotive experts. I would be an asshole to start looking for a different mechanic because they might be more moderate. (I’m not registered to any party BTW, if that matters to you).
The country would be better of with a responsible, center-right political party, yes, it’s a natural brake on the excesses of liberalism. But today’s Republican party ain’t that. It’s a plutocratic faction that manipulates an anxious ethnic majority in order to get most of their constituents to vote against policies that are in their own economic interests.
So, yes, we’d be better off without the current Republican party. Absolutely.
