And just got a call that my lawn mower is ready for pickup; guess my timing was real good this year, will head off to the place in a little bit.
Well, after VanGo replied and said “Appendix?”, I thought hmmm. I had already thought of that and rejected it because I mistakenly thought that the appendix was on the left side. But I looked it up and lo and behold, it’s on the right side. (no one should ever mistake me for a medical professional) So, I asked Hubs if he thought it might be his appendix. Didn’t take him too long and he said let’s go to the hospital. We left at 7pm.
I dropped him off at the ER door and went to park. Busiest ER parking lot that I’ve ever seen. He’s been there a number of times before. When I got in, I didn’t see him and they said he must be in the bathroom because he hadn’t been taken in to triage yet. The waiting room was packed. Spotted Hubs down a hallway away from anyone else. I sat down and within 5 minutes, if that, they called his name. I was concerned that other people in the waiting room who had been there before us were shooting figurative bullets into our backs. As we approached the door to go into triage, I sweetly said to the nurse “Thank you dear” in an effort to not have her tell me to sit down and they’d call me. That happened once before, not at that ER, but I didn’t want to have it happen again.
When we were in the curtained area, I whispered to the nurse that Hubs had had a stem cell transplant in Jan 2024. They took vitals and an EKG. Some guy told us to go wait out in the waiting area and they would come get us when a place in the ER opened up. Well, the nurse came back before we could start walking out and told Hubs to get back on the gurney, they had found a ‘room’. Turned out to be a very good ‘room’ as it was bigger than the other cubicle rooms and he wasn’t in the hallway like a lot of others who were exposed to anyone and everyone walking around in the ER. And it was at the very far end so very few people came down that way meaning Hubs wasn’t exposed to as many germs.
They ended up taking blood 3 different times, gave him tramidol (sp?) for pain, a chest x-ray, a junior Dr came in. She was thinking it might have been his gallbladder since the pain was not in the low area but 6" to the right of his belly button. She said that they would do a cat scan or possibly an ultrasound and she would speak with the attending Dr. It was taking a long time in between visits from nurses, techs and the doctors so I tried napping in a chair with head against wall with Hubs hoodie rolled up and placed between head and wall. Hubs was also napping in between all these visits. I also did pacing but only in the small room because didn’t want to be exposed to any germs lurking in the hallways. Finally around 11 or so, I started reading a book. When Brian, RN, came past, I asked him if they were going to bring Hubs his meds. Before we left, I printed out the current inventory and dosing instructions. So, he went down to the pharmacy and after a while, the pharmacist came up to speak to me. They had all his meds except for one that is a very special order.
Next, around midnightish, I asked Brian, RN, if he would possibly call and find out when they were coming to take Hubs for the catscan. He was surprised that they hadn’t come yet.
Starting at about 11, Hubs would occasionally tell me to go home as he didn’t want me to fall asleep while driving home. He really thought they would have to do surgery. I kept hoping things would get over so I said no, I was staying. Finally, at 1am, I said I was going. Brian came back and said he would take Hubs himself down to get the catscan. So, I left.
I got home about 1:44am and went right downstairs to get the laundry out of the washing machine. Before I could even lift the lid, Hubs called and said they were discharging him. They couldn’t find anything wrong, no infection, nothing and the tramidol that had been injected into the IV worked like a charm, the pain went away very quickly. He said they would call an Uber and pay for it themselves. Luckily I had left his shoes and hoodie. I had taken his jacket because I intended to come back and get him, probably in the morning. This morning I found 2 hospital blankets drapped over a chair in the dining room.
So, then I emptied the washing machine and found that I hadn’t turned the spigots to the water lines to Open so the clothes hadn’t been washed. So, I just heated up some soup and went to bed about 2:45. Hubs got home about half hour later. He had to wait in his room for at least 20 minutes before they would wheel him down because there was a commotion in the waiting room. Yeah and I had seen the beginnings of it. There were 4 or 5 uniformed men trying to get the one man sitting in the waiting room to leave the hospital. It seemed like the situation was starting to get ugly so I hurried putting on my cardigan and jacket and didn’t even put my headband or gloves on so I could just get out of there. This morning Hubs said the fella was likely homeless and was trying to get a warm place to stay for the night.
Oh, and Hubs found out that the reason the porter never came to take him for the catscan was that the porter himself had started vomiting around 11ish just as he was being tasked to go get Hubs.
Oh well, alls well that ends well.
i’m glad y’all got everything checked out. much better safe than sorry. not having found anything kinda has a “thread hanging” feeling.
sadie looks sooooo pretty. the puppers look like they are having a great time. that head tilt! so cute.
back at the office today. i’ve gotten through the physical and e mail. on to inventory to get supplies ordered.
I was doing double slides today, so the one clerk could catch up on the damages. Progress was made. I stopped and bought some BS chicken for tonight. Eggs are $4.59 at Teeter and $5.19 at aldi. At this rate, I may end up becoming an egg rustler.
Awwww. Glad she wasn’t too traumatized.
Not Ed Guana or Elizabeth Ard, or Ricardo the Scale Model? How sad.
I do prefer it warm, although summer in N.C. does bring a near Australia or venomous, biting things.
Indeed.
Home! Eye doc spent about 45 minutes checking all sorts of things, especially related to my occasional double vision. New specs ordered and they should be here in a couple of weeks.
Then I went to the sewing machine repair place. The guy there put it thru its paces and it worked like a champ. Then he said the magic phrase - “Always leave the presser foot up when threading the machine.” How was I never taught that?!?!? It explains so much about the troubles I’ve had over the years. So now I know. And while there, I was able to buy a leather drive belt for my treadle machine.
Now I’m home, trying to decide what to do now. A nap sounds good, except I’m not much of a napper. Maybe some reading in my recliner.
Very nice that it was an easy explanation to follow.
I forgot to mention that it was so nice to hear the birds gloriously singing while on my walk to work yesterday
Laundry from yesterday rerun through the machine with actual water and soap this time.
JtC Loved seeing the pics of the Berners!!! Would be nice if someone in my life had some that I could come over and play with sometime.
My Denon stereo receiver is getting cranky. Getting it to wake up and be a tuner for the local FM station is easy. Getting it to switch to Sirius XM, with its plethora of channels, requires using a phone for the remote. We have a phone that does only that. At least once a day, the phone/remote displays, “Can’t locate the Denon receiver.” Then I have to turn off and unplug the receiver, replug it and turn on the receiver. Then, it remembers its original mission in the world, for a while. So, now it will play The Beatles. Later, it may or may not switch to Real Jazz, or whatever I ask for.
Metal_Mouse, I once took a mower in for service in the fall, and I made sure to pick it up when it was done. The shop guy said, “Oh, that’s no big deal. Some folks leave their mowers here all winter.”
Hi ho, taxes are done and I don’t owe. The refund will cover a new laptop cuz mine has literally fallen apart where the screen meets the keyboard. On the hinge part. OTOH, do I need a laptop? My iPad is an extension of my arm…
Hooray!
God bless chicken noodle soup which I am eating and is agreeing with me!!

I finished the TIE interceptor last night:
A larger version of this picture, plus a photo of it on display, are in my Lego album.
Next will be the custom stone cottage set that I’ll assemble on Sunday afternoon, at my friends’ Lego-building event. I have no idea what my next “official” set will be: the only one I’m interested in that’s currently available is the Sanderson sisters’ cottage from Hocus Pocus, but I see that as Halloween decor. And it’s kind of big. Everything else I want is either backordered or $$$ (even more than usual) because it’s retired.
(If anyone was under the impression that this single, childless, middle-aged lady lives in the fast lane, just count the number of posts where I’ve had nothing more exciting to write about than Lego! )
That’s crazy talk!
I think I her.
How are you feeling?
You skipped over the best season: spring! It may be short, and sometimes hard to detect, but it’s definitely the best part of longer days and more sunshine.
Phew…but what a night!
For a loooong time my personal computers were laptops, but then I started buying iPads. Nowadays (since 2018) my personal computer is an all-in-one, with a nice big 27" screen. The iPads – and having 90% of my life in Google (Mail, Drive, Calendar, etc.) – give me portability when I need it.
Yay!
I’ve noticed a lot of stickers on cars around here that say “Rookie Driver” or “New Driver - Please be patient”. Anyone else see these in their part of the country/world?
Chillage has ensued. I’m thinking I’ll go outside and rake a bit. It’s sunny and mild, so why not?
Yeah, why not?
???
I personally think the larger screen and keyboard on a laptop are very important features, but that’s me. The larger screen is much easier on my eyes, and I’m a touch typist (over 60wpm at last test) so the virtual keyboard on a tablet feels incredibly clumsy to me.
Every so often, I notice similar stickers (“Student Driver” is also fairly common) in my area. They seem to be better drivers than other traffic, really, but I still do my best to give the novices plenty of breathing room.
Teeth cleaning today. Man, I hate it. It’s painful and you’re half-drowning much of the time, and it gives me a headache. Today’s torture included having to remove some leftover permanent cement from between my new crowns. That stuff is like cast iron, so it took her some time to get it out of there. I finally escaped after an hour and by then I really needed a bathroom. Then a stop at the grocery for some things. Got back to the underground parking and realized that I didn’t have my access key with me, so had to schlep things up the entry, out into the entry drive and through the main entrance. Luckily, I’d picked up a pizza at the store so it’s now baking its little heart out and I am somewhat mollified. I see a nap in my near future.
sunday and monday had a touch of spring in the air. on sunday, 2 hawks were courting, gliding around the art museum, big circles, then coming together, then circling. i haven’t seen bees as yet, but the birds are acourting.
monday and tuesday had a hint of winter chill, today is back to hint of spring. it will get down below freezing for march to come in with a blast of winter.
Just walked to the mailbox - my outdoor thermometer reads 67°. It hangs in the shade, so I think it’s accurate. Tomorrow will be a bit cooler with a small chance of rain, but I may get outside. I thought about it today, but couldn’t get motivated. We’ll see what we see.
Better the reptile than Car(e)less Co-worker. I hope he and dragon owner are able to find something soon, I understand that having an eviction on your renting record is Not A Good Thing.
I’m glad you were able to give your shoulder time to recover, but still be careful with it, mkay?
Such a pretty baby! I love her furry ears.
Thanks, I shared the pup pics here before, they were just the easiest for me to find for Wolfpup.
The plant nursery was very nice. Not as impressive as the one in AZ, but it is serving a much smaller population. They said they do plant the tomatoes I want but they don’t take reservations and when they are gone, they are gone. They took my number and promised to text me when they are ready but I’ve made a note on my calendar to check with them around the start of April. Last frost here is supposed to be April 14.
The county rep we went to visit today did indeed go to work. He was delivered to the back entrance and surrounded by three guards while they hurried through the door. There were five of us, three women and two men. None of us looked like we could win a fight against an angry squirrel, alone or in a crowd, we certainly didn’t warrant that response. We sure did strut around afterwards, LOL!!!
I do appreciate your kind offer. It’s not the money that’s the issue, it’s getting it to the right people. I doubt we will get arrested, we don’t have enough faith to think it would change anything. Morale was not at its highest today.
I am so sorry you are feeling so ick. Does your doctor have any suggestions about the nausea? I think @susan was on weight loss medication and she also had nausea. Maybe she might have some suggestions?
I read ahead and am happy the chicken soup helped. I hope it works again later.
What an ordeal! I’m so glad it all worked out and sure do hope he didn’t get exposed to anything while he was there. It’s great that the medical staff did so much to try to isolate him, that had to have helped.
That’s one of those things everyone things you already know. Remember me whining constantly about screwing up cheddar cheese and knowing that it was something very small and simple? Well, that’s just what it was, I was missing something that everyone knows and just assumes that everyone else knows too.
They are visiting their grandma so we will be seeing them Friday. Their mom brought them with her to her parent’s home which just happens to be Hub’s cousin. We are planning on having a visit with everyone at their home and then taking cousin and her daughter to lunch while daughter’s hub stays with Ronald (who should be sleeping by then).
I managed to let myself run out of rennet and while I have some ordered, it is not here now, so I bought some tablets at the grocery sto. I’ve never worked with tablets before and am not finding good conversion charts (I’ll look again before I start cooking) but going from the included recipes, I’m going to have to let the milk ripen for 18!!! hours or use four time the recommended amount.
I want to bring Ronald cottage cheese on Friday and I don’t have time to experiment so I’ll just make two batches at the same time. Cottage cheese will result no matter what, its almost as easy as yogurt.
I’m with Nette about being a touch typist, I also do not get along with the keyboard on my tablet. My mother was also a touch typist but she hasn’t touched a standard keyboard in years because she is so happy with her Ipad. Everyone is different.
But hurray for not owing!
Neat!
I’ve been hearing more birds as well. I’ve also learned that Ravens are relentless when it comes to sausage. I was not home at the usual sausage time so after Raven peered in the french doors and didn’t see me, it went to the other windows and found Hubs and tapped and fussed so much that he put out a plate of cut up hotdogs for it.
From what Hubs said, the Raven wouldn’t let him concentrate on his game even when he closed the curtains and he finally gave up when it started squalling at the top of its lungs. Knowing Hubs, the bird tapped on the window a couple of times and croaked once before getting a while hot dog all to itself.
I’m sorry to say you have trained them to be the most obstinate pests ever.
I love ravens, don’t get me wrong. But now that they have identified you as reliable food sources, they will never forget.
And if you forget, they will be happy to remind you in ways more obnoxious than you can currently imagine. They will tear your screens, tap at your windows and carry on in all sorts of expensive, destructive ways.
Habituated ravens are relentless. And they’ve got your number!
All is not lost! I will start leaving hot dog trails to Harry’s place. He’s worse than us when it comes to feeding the wildlife!
LOL, you wonderful devious woman! That’ll work.
It’s a 40 year old injury that rears its ugly head every few years. The medical types tell me that surgery has ~50% success rate, so unless it gets a whole lot worse, I’m not gonna bother.
cat glove, I’m with JtC about calling the doctor about your hubby’s pain. Maybe it’s nothing, maybe not.
Moooooom, I think getting his meds as prescribed could only improve things for BIL. Fingers crossed.
Sis had a pair of bearded dragons for a few years when she taught elementary science. They were interesting critters.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but she’s gorgeous.
We were dismissed after half a day for lack of work. I came home, grabbed Nelson and took him to the dog park (It was a lovely 72F out there), then came home, suited up for the funeral home and went to Alem’s visitation.
Now, it’s sloth until bedtime.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
