My TiVo didn’t quite catch all the bumper cards at the begining but I gather that Squidbillies just wasn’t ready yet. So they showed… something. What the hell was that?
While the first show was playing, the Anime/Perfect Hair thing, I thought, “Oh god, the Williams Street guys have really lost it, they’re just doing weird for the sake of weird”. But it was strangely compelling. And what was that accent that ‘Uncle Grandfather’ later had? German? Swedish? Dutch?
Didn’t like the second thing much though. The panel show with SG, MW, SB and that Shark guy. Kind of showed how although their shows like SGC2C, ATFH etc. all look totally improvised, they aren’t. This show seemed like it was, and it wasn’t very funny.
I’m not sure. I saw the same thing, and I found it also lacking. Frankly, I think that the folks at Adult Swim have been running out of ideas ever since the guy who played Captain Murphy passed away. All the shows seem to be lacking inspiration. The only show which doesn’t seem to have suffered that fate is the Venture Bros.
While we’re on the subject of Ault Swim, is it me, or does Tom Goes to the Mayor look like it’s gonna suck rocks? This absurdist humor is all very well, but some times it seems as though it’s an excuse to not have to draw or write very well.
There was a throw-away newsreel-type thing in the opening of the “Introducing Tornado Shanks” episode that showed Murphy commanding a battalion in the “spice wars” or something. The crew is watching it and commenting, wondering who the new captain will be.
The bumper cards after the Space Ghost thing seemed to suggest they simply “lost interest” in Squidbillies. But yeah, I have to agree with Tuckerfan, there seems to be something lacking in Sealab and ATHF recently.
What the heck was that Super Milk Chan thing? If they could pare it down to a fifteen minute show it could be awesome, but at the full half hour it really dragged.
Super Milk Chan was unbearable. I had to turn it off halfway through. As for Squidbillies, I’ve suspected it was a joke ever since they showed the ‘super secret sneak preview design sketches!’ several months back. I haven’t seen anything you guys are talking about, but I doubt I’ll like them. I barely tolerate Athf as it is anyway.
I really didn't like Super Milk Chan either, from what I gather on the web, it is a parody show, parodying Japensie popular culture and like most parodys, it really isn't all that funny unless you are familiar with what is being parodied.
I suspect that if you are Japanese, this thing is a scream. To me it seemed like "All your base are belong to us" the series.
I would agree with you that Squidbillies is probably just a practical joke being played on the viewers by the Adult Swim folks.
The Williams Street folks love fucking with their viewers.
The cards around the squidbillies timeslot pretty much made that clear… I just wonder how long the planned this.
Someone over there probably doodled something ridiculous, then decided to jokingly show it on air as design sketches for a new show they claimed to be planning. They may have decided to stretch the joke out for another week or so. At that point, I’ll bet you there were several people on the AdultSwim forums who thought it was real and just couldn’t wait to see this obviously hilarious new show! So the guys at Williams Street batted around the idea a while, wondering if they actually could make this show, but ultimately decided to keep it as a joke and see how long they could run with it, resulting in what you guys saw Sunday night in its stead.
Does anyone know if “Perfect Hair Forever” is supposed to be some kind of Pavement reference?
I agree that Super Milk Chan was teh s uck. And I haven’t liked any of the new ATHF episodes, it’s gone downhill since they got rid of Dr. Weird. Although the hypnogerms episode was pretty funny.
