DISCLAIMER I missed you all so much I got carried away with this post, it’s a little long, sorry.
Thanks for the shout outs my peeps! (I must be channeling #1 daughter!) It has been truly frustrating not to be able to converse with y’all daily, or at least reading your posts and having mental conversations! Hopefully I won’t be on hiatus from The Dope again at least until next Autumn when The Kitchen and Back Bedroom Remodel Project gets underway! This fixer-upper will be a nice cosy little home when we are done…but is one ever done when one is a home owner/ho’moaner?
li-li I feel for you with you mil not feeding you. My mil always makes certain that there is plenty of food, and sometimes she makes really good stuff, fish/clam chowders and CBS (corned beef soup, although made with tinned corned beef) however there is also a lot of spam and items like fish head soup. Yeah, she still lives in the village, and I eat traditional foods, but I am not overly fond of fish heads, and the grossness that is spam goes back to my own childhood in white bread suburbia.
While I am for the most part a righty (I am able to use my left hand in many tasks, just not for writing) my two oldest children are both lefties, even though their fathers were righties. My husband and the majority of his family are lefties, but our two children are righties. Make of that what you will!
And Jah I totally feel for you. My migraines have lessened considerably in the last few years, but what a misery they are.
Gotta love the baby photos! Baby Kelly is a gorgeous girl, and what’s not to love about a girl that young with the ability to hold a stone gaze while flipping the bird unobtrusivly? Also I enjoyed the redneck biker/beer/bonfire and chainsaw extravaganza…I love me some big, burly biker boys!
First of all, rosieposie, Jonathan is a gorgeous boy! Second, yeah, ten pomeranians. I hobby breed, although it has been three years since I bred my last litter. I also do a little bit of rescue, and I have a terrible time letting the puppies go! I have five each male and female, three intact males but have only used one at stud so far. Four intact females, although two are not going to be bred again and I will have them spayed soon. Three are of my own breeding, two spayed/neutered pets which I simply could not part with, and one little girl who is what I have been working toward, and I am planning a breeding with her, and her mama, in the Spring. That will be her mama’s last breeding. I have learned a lot, and have aspirations to finish at least one of my puppies in the AKC conformation ring.
brainpasture as skiffman is still finishing cutting up meat, I feel compelled to tell you that yes, in fact, moose is considered venison. As I understand it, if it has hooves and is a ruminant and is taken in the wild, it’s venison. We are having moose meatloaf tonight, as a matter of fact! The trick with game meat is to cook it slowly with some moisture (and sometimes some fat) added. My meatloaf will have half again as much bulk pork sausage mixed with it. We eat so much game and fish that I can taste the chemicals in store bought meat.
puggy no weaving for me, I already have enough crafty things I do! Besides I do my own grooming, and one of the reasons for the bamboo flooring instead of replacing the carpet was to cut down of the fur/hair issue. You know that I have long hair, well skiffman’s is almost as long as mine, and The Son has decided to grow his out. I finally allowed #3 to cut her butt length hair when she turned 14, but with people, poms and cats, there is a whole lot of shedding going on continually, and my OCD cannot handle it!!!
Congratulations gotti on both the spiffy new tv as well as the awesomeness that is a big pickemup truck! I am jealous!
rigs bamboo seems to be the New Big Thing. I remember when I was a kid growing up in north Seattle my dad had planted bamboo in a brick planter along the front walk, as well as in a Japanese-type garden in the side yard. It grows amazingly fast, on a hot summer day I used to sit on the edge of the planter and quite literally watch it grow. The kind my dad grew, and that my floor and other things are being manufactured from, is a super fast renewable resource. Compared to putting down hardwood flooring, even a laminate, my bamboo flooring will have renewed itself in two years. And it’s so purty!
gt I remember that I missed your birthday, as well as at least one other MMPer, belated best wishes! Fish is all over the media as the government takes more and more away from us. Remember when the government was taking over the family farms in the 70’s/80’s/90’s, and Willie Nelson began the Farm Aid benefits? Well, that is what is happening to fishing, only we don’t have a Willie Nelson or any other big name bringing our situation to the attention of the public. My son won’t be a fisherman, and even the skiffman, who has fished commercially since he was seven years old is considering a different occupation. Trouble is, all he knows is fishing. It’s all a sore subject here, and the topic of many get togethers. But thanks for thinking about me! I think of you everytime I recall the 40+ bulbs I didn’t get planted before the freeze!
db I don’t know what the size difference between Lucretia and Maggie, but Kazz is about 20 lbs, while my largest pom might top the scales at 7 lbs. I have three which are just under 4 lbs, the rest are all in the 5 lb catagory. Big old white cat standing on his hind legs and bopping pommies on the head is frightfully amusing! And he is not outnumbered, really, if only he would accept the three half grown kitties as allies instead of delinquents he needs to discipline he would have the poms both out weighed and out muscled, but he still hasn’t gotten over the passing of Izzy Kitty and Angel Baby last March, and is holding a grudge against the new kitties, considering them to be interlopers, and he bops them even more frequently than the poms! I may be a gimpy middle aged woman, but I do not lack for either companionship or amusement!
I empathize with your frustrations regarding the project FCM, that you were removed after putting so much into it bites, and having to give it over to a loser is just wrong. Oh, and check your email later, I need to ask you sumpthin’.
Oh li-li as the song says, I’m not first class but I ain’t white trash. Having said that, gravy is very important! Skiffman and the kids eat catsup on rice, pasta, potatoes, which is icky. The proper topping is gravy (with the exception of pasta). I am not big on fatback, but bacon or sausage adds just enough fat to very lean game meat. On the game skiffman brings home the fat is not marbled throughout the muscle, but laid across the back and down the sides a bit. I nail it onto trees for the birds.
Taters I do not blame you one bit for not going out in the weather, PNWers just can’t deal with a little snow, and you have gotten whomped! I remember precious few snow storms like this one from my past, the biggest was probably in '88, right before I came to Alaska. 405 is not a good highway with even a little bit of black ice, I can well imagine the situation, and hope that your husband stays safe. You too! Don’t worry too much, it will soon be in the 40’s and raining again, I am sure.
Who knew that the Japanese even had such a thing as skivvy vending machines??? Or that anyone did??? I will join in with the collective ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! I am curiously curious about li-li’s QD undies though…
And at this point I have reached yesterday’s (Tuesday’s) page and will end this post and begin another if further response is called for. That would be called for in my own mind, I love chatting with you guys!
I have been trying to post this since late yesterday afternoon…grrr…
