Goofing off??? Moi?
I was outta here before 4 am, driving around some of the unpaved and unplowed rural roads. It was all still wet slushy stuff at that time, but around 5 it started to freeze and snow. So by 5:30, we had a layer of ice, covered by a couple inches of wet snow and a forecast of snow all morning, ending with about 6-8 inches altogether. I talked to Snowplow Chief from my town’s public works department who said it was a mess and he couldn’t promise to keep the streets clear in the morning.
It’s the first time in 7 years this school district has had a snow day, and it was ultimately my call. We may not be macho, bit I got 14,000 + kids to worry about keeping safe.
T’was a no-brainer keeping kiddies home today - as I pointed out to the people who make me make the call - I didn’t think they’d have too many teachers making it in today.
So, the call was made, I ran to my office to start the phone tree to tree-in’, changed the office voice mail to say “Look outside goofy, it’s snowing, we’re not here, see ya Monday” and came home to snuggle with the Wife, who decided not to catch the train downtown to work. By the time I made it home, it was so bad I almost couldn’t make it back up my driveway.
It works out having a day off, I have a lot to do here anyway. It took me and my snowblower an hour just to do my little driveway.
Tomorrow is Annual Make the Tamales Day at Casa Bus. I have 11 lbs of pork roast simmering in three different crock pots, all the masa and leaves ready to go, I now have all day to simmer the chile, and later tonight, shred the pork, dump it in the chile, and chill it. Tomorrow, about 6-8 friends come by to assemble and cook the things. It’s a ton of work, but knowing I have homemade tamales to eat the rest of the month makes it worthwhile…
Video games my eye…
