From the little I’ve been around them, SCL, Clumbers are really laid back – they’re retrievers, but they’re the tortoises of the retriever world. You know, slow and steady wins the race. They can go all day long. They’re pretty reserved around strangers, but from what my SIL tells us, they’re total clowns with their people. They’re really neat dogs. I expect that one of these days we’ll end up with a non-show-quality Clumber from one of SIL’s dog’s litters. But not while we have our current idiots, obviously.
Indeed, that’s no small accomplishment! What kind do you have? DH has a 4-thread Viking that I will not touch. I’ll watch in awe as all of those parts go whirling about and get completely gobsmacked at the idea that some clever person figured out all those tiny implements and have it all work.
For me, I’ll stick with the new plasma TV. On regular channels, it shows off all the warts, but DVDs are amazing. I’ll probably wind up upgrading the satellite service - hopefully they offer the local channels in HD as antennas don’t pick up much as there’s a mountain range between us and the TV transmitters.
Again - thanks for all the birthday wishes! It really is amazing to me that I have friends all over!
Tel, you can’t get away that easy. What kind of cat? When? Have you already met the cat? Do you have pictures of the cat? Why haven’t you posted pictures of the cat? What have you named the cat?
We picked up the beautiful bed and night stand at my Dad’s house today. The nightstand has a marble top and is sort of like a bombay chest in that is is rounded.
When we’re feeling more flush with money (i.e, the credit cards are paid off), we plan on going up to Bombay Furniture and getting another night stand and a matching chest of drawers. The bed is beautiful.
When we came home, we took down the old bed, mucked out the bedroom and I vaccuumed and steam cleaned the room too. My son and husband are upstairs now putting the bed together. The comforter is still in the dryer but the rest of the bedding has been washed.
Tomorrow we need to go down to Home Depot and buy some anchor holder thingies so we can hang up the window treatments my step-mother gave me today too. She gave us some beautiful drapes and a topper that will look outstanding in the bedroom. She also gave me a beautiful piece of artwork which I am proudly displaying in my fireplace niche. We are so lucky.
I have to say I am very tired. We left here around 11:00 this morning and didn’t get home until close to 5:00 this evening. I made dinner, and then I mucked out the bedroom. I finished that around 9:30, and now the boys are putting the bed together. It’ll feel good to sleep tonight.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! I’m up having some particularly nummy coffee. It’s just regular ol’ coffee but I did a good job makin’ it in my stupefied pre-caffiene haze this morning.
Snakes I’m glad you had a great bday. Since when have I hounded people for pictures of cats? :dubious:
Ima go rouse ol’ y’all know who in a bit. He says he’s going to church with me today. I figure if I can get him up and cleaned up we can go to breakfast before church. Being taken out for breakfast should be motivation to get up, right? We’re also goin’ for hibachi for lunch today. It’s an eat out kinda day here.
Kahlua and cream and amaretto. I use half as much amaretto as kahlua, and I use half-n-half instead of cream. I think it’s especially good when you toss it in the blender with some ice, but since I didn’t feel like cleaning the blender, I just used crushed ice.
Good morning, world! It’s a cold, overcast Sunday here in southern Merrylande. I have a huge pile of laundry taunting me, so that’ll be the chore du jour. My sweetie is still crashed but the critters have been tended to. Two weeks from today, my baby gets here - yay!
My other chore is tomorrow’s MMP. They don’t just write themselves, ya know! Well, maybe sometimes they do, and I’ve had this one mulling about in my brain so it should spill right out, but still… Incidentally, speaking of the holiday MMPs, I can’t volunteer for Christmas since I won’t have computer access at the in-laws’, but I can take New Year’s Day if no one else wants it. It’s not like anything happens in the FairyChatHousehold on Dec 31 - I can’t remember the last time we stayed up till midnight.
So, what do I want for breakfast? Decisions, decisions…
Happy birthday, SCL! Wanted to make it in here yesterday to wish you that, but was overtaken by houseguests.
Busy busy day chez GT yesterday. We pulled out all the Christmas decorations and started going through them. I have two table-top trees (3 ft or so) and am giving little brother one of them and some decorations to go with them. Also, we’ll be decorating here today.
We had dinner at friends’. They’re former neighbors of my brother’s. Their kids and my brother’s kids are friends. The kids had a really good time. They’re the only ones of their former neighbors that I ever felt I could really be friends with too, so that was nice. Kids painted for a while also. I was hoping they’d be able to finish some ornaments to take with us to Mexico at Christmas, but it doesn’t look like that’s happening.
I’m kinda surprised no one’s up yet. I guess all the running around they did yesterday really did tire them out. (We also went to a game place; it has semi-active games like Gameworks/Dave & Busters but also has a ginormous play area that they spent quite a while in).
Thanks, gotti. It’s a 5-thread Singer Quantumlock – has two lovely features that clearly were worth the extra $$, an automatic thread tension option and a lower looper threader. Considering it took me half an hour to figure out how to get the thread as far as the lower looper off the cone, I can see why that is worth its weight in gold.
But I want a plasma HDTV, too. Problem is, we got this monster flat-screen last year (not LCD or plastma, just huge and a great picture) on sale for a ridiculously small amount of $$, so we really have no excuse to replace it. Except that we probably will in the next couple of years when the prices come down a bit more. They’ve already dropped an insane amount, haven’t they?
It’s cold here this morning, but the sky is clear blue and gorgeous. Here’s hoping it stays that way. Papa Tigs says he’s going to take the pups for a swim this afternoon; I say have at it, there’s no way you’re getting me near that cold water with all those happy wet dogs running around!
OK, Mama Tiger, quit hogging the blue skies! It’s still mostly overcast here.
We had french toast made from the bread I baked last night. The first load of laundry is in the washer. Dishwasher is loaded. I brought up my latest batch of pots - I seem to recall planning to upload pics of them some time ago - I’ll try to get that done today.
Oh yeah, and tomorrow’s MMP is done. I just need to remember to post before I leave for work. If I have a brain fart, someone else will need to do a place-holder MMP. If nothing is posted by 6 eastern time, that means I forgot…
I should probably shower and put some clothes on. My robe is getting itchy… or is that TMI?? <snerk - like I could top **swampy ** in *that * department>
My first successful home glaze batch. The artistry may be messy, but the glaze performed as it should, except for the burgundy. At least I now know how to program the glaze cycle.
First priority will be gifts - I need to decide what I’m sending to whom, and get them packed up and ready to go. I know I owe you one, so you’re first on the list after I do my duty…
those are lovely, FCM. I love that bowl you’re keeping - it does look pearlescent. You haave different color clays? is that why some look dark no matter what glaze you use? because I’d opt for using the white clay all the time if I were throwing
db - that’s cute - I’ve seen the floor around the tree (in store displays) strewn with dreidls and menorahs, too
Yay Tigs - when I used to do a lot of sewing (dresses mostly, because I could never find exactly what I wanted in the stores) I dreamed about learning to use a serger.
Tellie - got to a PetCo or some place like that where they offer adoption services. The one near me has people come in and talk about what you need to take care of the new kitty and they have dozens of little kitties mewing and purring and just looking adorable, you get to play with them and decide which one is right for you. And resuced kitties are so appreciative of being adopted, they become little mushes
Beautiful work FCM! I can see why you’re keeping the one you called your favorite. The white and cobalt blue is very pretty too!
We’ll be hanging the window treatments in our bedroom today. Hubby is in the shower and after he gets out, I’ll get cleaned up. The bed looks stunning in our room and so does the nightstand. Now, we just need to paint our bedroom. It’s still the contractor color, which is BOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIING!
It’s cold and mostly clear out today.
I’ll have to go shopping today too. I need to buy a birthday present, a book on MapPoint and some groceries. My son wanted to make a big breakfast for us today, but we only had three eggs, no bacon, and no sausage.
At this point, nothing else too exciting is going on. I’ll check in later.
Just a quick post- I’m back from Mass, making lunch, then running off to work. We saw Killed by Death last night, and for some reason the monster terrified me into being awake until three. It’s the first time I’ve been scared by Buffy. Weird.
I’ve got brown clay and white clay, and yes, on the brown, the glaze colors are “off” sometimes. **FCD ** thinks I should use white all the time, too, but sometimes I like the brown. I just need to find glazes that work best on the dark clay.
Just finished a yummy lunch of leftover bean soup followed by peach streusel pie. Dunno how I’m going to top that for dinner. I’ve got a little laundry to finish, plus a little sewing to do, tho nothing as fancy as multiple needle stuff. Just a couple of hems and a couple of seams. Quick and easy.
Still no sun to speak of - we picked a good day to hang indoors. Threats of rain tonight and temps dropping into the 20s for a couple of nights. Guess winter’s here…
I managed to get his lordship (what I call y’all know who when he sleeps in) up, dressed, out to breakfast and church today. That’s some feat let me tell ya.
Anywho, we got names off the giving tree at church this morning, so after lunch we went present shoppin’ for kidlets. ‘Twas fun. ACBG is at his place doin’ laundry. I may wander off over there a little later, or not. It’s all cloudy and cool and threatening to rain here. If’n it starts rainin’ I prolly won’t venture out cause I’ll get wet. Plus I’m all warm and snuggly in my robe, sweatpants, tshirt and socks right now. Yep, I’m ever the fashion plate even when I’m by my little self.
