X-files coming back next season? [Yes!]

:bump:

Looks like even more episodes(maybe all now) are in HD. I’m watching** Triangle** in season 6 and it looks awesome.

Awesome!

I have checked.

Seasons 1-7 are in HD. The ones with Mulder, which makes sense.

From here.

Not too happy about Moronica coming back, and I hope Doggett died in a fiery car crash. I also hope they find some way to bring back Nicholas Lea. But, the addition of Joel McHale is awesome, especially as an ally for Mulder.

Premiers Sunday, January 24th 2016 on FOX. Can’t wait!!

Nobody cares about this?

I do. I just never watch TV actually on TV. I simply won’t and don’t conform to their schedule. It will be out on Netflix, eventually, and I can wait.

But then, THEN! I will be excited.

I admit it. I’m going all fan-girl-squee over this. I watch so little tv anymore, but this I’ll make a point of tuning in for. Even if it’s awful, it will still be nice to see the familiar folks back doing the familiar things. Kinda like a class reunion where you can catch up with what people you used to know have been up to.

I will definitely be watching, just keeping my expectations medium-low and still gotta wait 6 months.

I’ll be watching it. Like some others in this thread, I’ve been rewatching the original series on Netflix, and listening to Kumail Nanjiani’s “X-Files Files” podcast. Many of them still hold up pretty well, though there are a few clunkers that are just silly. I’m only just getting to the end of season 2, so it will be interesting to try to pinpoint exactly where they go off the rails with the alien conspiracy arc.

One thing the original series did really well is create an atmosphere of almost suffocating, claustrophobic, paranoid dread. As in the episodes “Fire”, “Ice” and one of my personal favorites “Darkness Falls”. The repeating scenes with the close-ups of the generator chugging away, almost out of gas, the lone bare flickering light bulb, and Scully freaking out trying to get the creatures off her and almost breaking the hanging bulb were great.

I hope Vince Gilligan is able to be involved in some capacity. I know he was only an occasional writer on the X-Files, and didn’t get involved until later (season 3?), so maybe it’s my imagination…but I see a lot of DNA between the original X-Files and Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul: the expert mix of humor lightening up horrifying subject matter; the cinematography and scene framing, like one scene in the X-Files where they show a close-up of The Smoking Man butting out a cig while Scully is blurred-out in the background; and the visual jokes/puns, like the scene where the human fluke monster breaks out of his restraints in the transport truck and the driver pulls over in a parking lot where a neon sign displays “Live Bait”.

If the Smoking Man is coming back, what’s he going to do now that smoking is banned in public buildings- vape? nicotine patches?

I hope Darin Morgan writes an episode. He wrote some of the funniest eps.

The second episode of the 6 they are making is called “Home Again” and is written by the same writer who wrote “Home”.

No way is it a sequel. That would be…kind of awesome.

Is “Home” the episode I think it is? (Checks.) Yikes!

Grandchildren?

Og, grandchildren may look even more fucked up than they did.

“Wonderful, Wonderful” Can anyone listen to that Johnny Mathis song and not think about that episode?

I am excited! Was hoping for the retcon/TLG ain’t dead angle. Doesn’t look like I get my wish. I’ll watch it all anyway. Would rather they were monster hunting FWIW. Any chance they’ll pull in the Millenium folks? Wasn’t there some cross-pollination there?

They are also back in Vancouver, where they belong.

A couple of updates:

According to this Entertainment Weekly article, “Home Again” will not be a sequel to “Home.” I’m actually kind of relieved. It was a great episode, but sooo disturbing.

Also, Kumail Nanjiani (host of The X-Files Files podcast and actor on Silicon Valley) will have a role in one of the new episodes. He posted a pic of himself with Duchovny and Anderson a couple of weeks ago.

I’m partway through Season 3 on my X-Files series rewatch, and I have to say this show looks really great in HD! “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose” was such a treat to see again. And it is so fun seeing guest actors who were no-names back then and went on to become stars. The latest episode I watched, “Oubliette,” featured a very young (like 13 years old) Jewel Staite as a kidnap victim.

What episodes are in HD now? Is there a guide that tells you?

I don’t know of any guides. I watch on Netflix. When I first started my rewatch, they were SD. Sometime during my season 2 run, they began to be HD. I didn’t go back and check, but I assume the earlier eps are in HD now, too.

I have watched a few, but it is totally random. Netflix needs to label each episode as HD or not.

Never mind. Apparently, the whole show has been updated to HD. Awesome.

I’ve noticed, though, that the opening credits sequence still looks low-res. The onscreen text looks HD, but the video/visuals look SD or worse. That may be an artistic choice.
