X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer

I have no idea how the movie will do it but the comic book was more complicated. Alternate timelines and such. The plot is summerized on wiki.

Looking back at the comics from that era, i.e. the 1970s, there were a lot of monster/vampire/werewolf titles… what the fuck?

Whither, Morbius?

If I recall, the time traveler is from the future and comes back to the present to harangue the X-Men. They have a task to perform to prevent a nasty future from occurring, but there’s never a time when the X-Men’s present isn’t what it’s “supposed to be”. The time traveler’s history isn’t the one the comic had been following for 180 issues.

I hope that makes some sense.

So, it’s all ghost-of-Christmas-future stuff? Bad stuff will happen, but if you act now, they won’t?

Sorta kinda not really. IIRC, the future still happens, just not to Our Heroes. But various characters from this future return to our timeline and interact with Our Heroes. I think. I pulled out my copy of the trade paperback to reread, but haven’t gotten to it yet.

WOW! Hugh Jackman has an enormous codpiece. I wonder how much is empty space.

How important are the Wolverine movies for continuity?

I liked the first three X-Men movies. I haven’t seen First Class- wasn’t interested when it first came out, but I’ve mostly heard good things about it so now I feel like I’d like to see it.

However, I hated the first Wolverine movie and had no interest in seeing the second one. I never rewatched the first one, so I don’t really remember much from it anymore.

Days of Future Past looks pretty good and I’ll want to see it. I’ll make a point of finally seeing First Class before then. I’ll skip to Wolverine movies unless they matter for continuity.

So, from those who are familiar with the Wolverine movies? Are those movies wrapped up in the X-Men Movieverse in an indispensable way?

So Logan’s going back in time to find Xavier and Magneto?

Are we going to get a line where one of them says “Aren’t you that guy in the bar who told us to go f*ck ourselves?”

IIRC, they don’t ever see his face.

More proto-Terminator, really.

I have no idea what the plot of this movie is going to be, but I really hope this is the final scene

I’m relieved that there’s no sign of January Jones and her lifeless Emma Frost, and that Halle Berry was too pregnant for another round of Storm-does-Spinjitsu. Also, good that they’ve apparently dropped Pyro and some of the other background mutants.

However, there’s a lot of mutants in this ensemble, and a bunch of new ones to fit in, too – Blink, Warpath, Sunspot, Bishop. Shades of X-Men 3, with its odd cameos by Madrox, Arclight, Angel, etc. The movie is already too busy with minor characters to spend time introducing more just for fanservice.

Plus, all the new ones seem like they’re from the dystopian future, and so of necessity will be doomed to swift noble deaths. They need to die so Wolverine isn’t culpable for essentially murdering them by erasing their timeline. And it needs to happen quickly so the movie can move on to the past. Seems pointless to introduce them just to be Sentinel fodder.

Aha, I saw what you did there.

Followed by this one?

The end of the film could be Professor X and Magneto getting completely drunk in a bar. The sequel could be called “Days of Morning Afters”

Yeah, I was totally whooshed by that one.

wow…

that looks pretty awesome. I forgot I’m still behind one Wolverine movie, but after I catch up, I might actually see this one in the theater.

I loved X-2. I still say it’s the best comic movie ever. (yes, better than Avengers, which I do love). First class was pretty great except for Emma. I was a big Generation X and Exiles fan, so I will admit a small squee at seeing Blink, though I expect her scenes will be more similar to her original Phalanx Covenant appearance (i.e., a quick death) than to her later revival in Age of Apocalyse form.

Well, they do have to top the “Shwarma” scene from the avengers.

It’s hard to say without having seen the new movie, but I would guess not. The last Wolverine movie was pretty self-contained, without leaving a whole lot in the way of unresolved issues. The only thing I might expect to show up in the new film is Yukio, a ninja mutant with precognitive powers who teamed up with Wolverine, and was still hanging out with him by the end of the movie, and even there, I’d be surprised if she rates as much as a passing reference.

Thanks, Grave Filler!
