Remember that one? One of the Rankin-Bass puppet shows, back in the 1970s. Plot goes that Santa catches a bad cold and might have to skip his Christmas run. He gets depressed and starts thinking no one believes in him anymore. So Mrs. Claus sends out Jingle and Jangle on Vixen to go and find at least one child who still believes.
The highlight, of the special, though, is the Miser Brothers, Snow Miser and Heat Miser, and their little song and dance numbers:
I’m Mister White Christmas
I’m Mister Snow
I’m Mister Icicle
I’m Mister 10 below!
They call me Snow Miser
Whatever I touch
Turns to ice in my clutch-I’m too much! I’m Mister Green Christmas
I’m Mister Sun
I’m Mister Heat Blister
I’m Mister 101
They call me Heat Miser
Whatever I touch
Starts to melt in my clutch-I’m too much!
In the interest of fairness, you have to include this, too–faster pace, great voice work by Dick Shawn (The Producers), and the terrific Bbbrrbrbbbbrbbrbrbrrrbrbrbr. Too much!
I watch this show constantly during the holiday season because my daughter, who is 3, loves it. Anyone else notice an odd inconsistency…
When Ms Claus goes to meet up with Mother Nature, she summons the Miser brothers to “discuss” with them what will happen.
She points to Snow Miser and says “You will let a little snow fall in Southtown” while he nods approvingly, and then points to Heat Miser and says “And you’ll [give them a nice sunny day? something about abnormal weather at the north pole]” while Heat Miser nods approvingly.
This has always struck me as wrong because it’s the exact opposite of what she should be saying…she should be telling Heat Miser to let Snow Miser send snow to Southtown, and telling Snow Miser to let Heat Miser send sun to the NP.
Although I seriously doubt this is actually happened, I can just imagine Cold Miser and Heat Miser respectively being modeled after Col. Klink and Gen. Burkhalter.
