…but that doesn’t mean I find her in the least bit attractive.
I’m thinking that I just don’t listen to nearly enough am radio these days. Sure, I tune into the Oiler’s hockey games on am but other than that it’s always classic rock on Fm.
Except for today it seems. I pulled in last night listening to the Philadelphia Edmonton game and rushed inside to catch it on the television. When I went out to start the car today to what did my wondering ears appear? I had forgotten to change the station last night…
None other than Dr. Laura (yes I’ve seen your tits) Schlessinger. I had forgotten how truly offensive this woman can be and wasn’t even aware that her show was broadcast in our area. It was like watching a fucking accident where you want to look away but can’t. I had forgotten how patronizing and morally superior this woman is to everyone else on the planet. Words can barely describe my revulsion. I can’t believe people call to be berated by this sanctimonious, patronizing, judgemental purveyor of morality. Can I say bitch?
From what I hear eighteen million people tune in to hear her spew her crap on a daily basis. That’s 18,000,000 people we have to save from the ravages of ignorance, prejudice, and narrow mindedness.
It made me just want to drive south to sunny California and kick her holier than thou ass into next week and beyond. Since I can’t really do that I think I will write the station and ask why in God’s good name they carry her show (at lunchtime no less) every day.
I should have known it was a bad omen, I came home from work tonight to find that three of the Feynnlings have come down with the stomach flu. I thought I had seen some impressive projectile vomiting in my time but I was wrong. Did I mention the diarrhea? It’s been a fun night for me, on the bright side it’s almost 6 am and then it’s mom’s turn to take a shift taking care of our babies so I can catch a few z’s.
I agree that she’s way the hell past the back of beyond.
But remember, she’s only filling a market. Like Limbaugh, Downey Jr, Liddy, Cuomo and Larry King…it wouldn’t be a phenomenon if the people were giving it their attention.
Anyway, about Dr. Laura… I’d heard all of the complaints but never really had an opinion until her show started airing in my city. Gahh. She’s on a horse so high I’m surprised she doesn’t get struck by lightning. Why would you watch a show like that, unless you enjoy being lectured to?
I’ve listened to her on occasion and I find her show to be somewhat enjoyable. No…seriously. Not that I follow her advice, I disagree with almost everything she says. I’ve never met anyone who could be so openly hypocritical in every facet of their life like she is and her doctoral qualifications shouldn’t get her a job at the heath clinic in a whore house in Tijuana, let alone as a nationally syndicated host of an advice show.
But I think it’s funny when she yells at her callers, I think it’s quite humorous when the listeners call in expecting not to be yelled at or are surprised that they are being yelled at, and I think it’s downright laughable that people even bother calling into the show at all. You listen to her for one day and you know how she’ll respond to any “moral dilemma.”
The people that call in are desperate for validation. Listen to them. “My mother, my father, my three brothers, my seven sisters, and all my friends think I should do X. But I had to call you. What should I do Dr. Laura?”
Oh, and I haven’t seen her tits yet. I’m still waiting for that Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee video to finish downloading…
I was a semi-captive audience to Dr. (and I use the term loosely) Laura. As I was driving accross country in a car with no tape deck, I ran accross a stretch in Wyoming where I could only get one AM station featuring - you guessed it - Doc. L.
My choices were few. Listen to the show, screaming intermittantly at the radio, or go crazy from the silence. You might be able to tell which way I went on that one.
jarbabyj - I get really excited whenever Captain Doug steps on the ice although my excitement is for different reasons. Dr. Laura is so diapproving of those who find the same sex attractive in that way. You had better be single because lusting after another man is just wrong.
Jack- I can understand having to drive for long distances without any radio and crazy is such a politically incorrect word, try mentally imbalanced.
Ender- You haven’t seen her tits yet? I think it’s a right of passage for every red blooded surfer to go take a peek. Lola actually sat me down and said “you have to see this”. Bless her little heart. She also is the one who pointed me to TM’s site.
Dr. Laura can be a serious PITA and her manner is often offensive. I occasionally listen to her, and yes she is grating, abrupt and (IMO) wrong about some things… but and this is a big BUT… she isn’t wrong about everything and in fact often has sage counsel for many people calling in with moral dilemmas related to personal choices they have made.
People often call in with personal train wrecks and are seeking answers. These “answers” they seek often incorporate self justifying personal exemptions for the bad choices they have made along with a desire to blame everyone under the sun but themselves for the messes they have made of their lives. Other people call in wanting to punish someone (often relatives) or go to war over perceived slights. When she takes people through the process of the choices they have made to get where they are there is often a stunned silence on the other end as people contemplate these choices and their ramifications. If often seems it’s the first time in their lives they have been held to account for their own choices and behavior.
It’s a slippery slope between promoting “moral” choices and moralizing and she often slips on this slope but her advice is often quite practical and has (IMO) the salutary effect of making us think about our own choices and behaviors and the real world consequences they may engender.
If I could have every teenager in the US listen to a selection of calls I have heard on her show, by 13 to 40 year old single mothers and non-custodial fathers talking about the choices they made to have sex at a young age and how this affected their lives and the real world options they had after getting pregnant and either carrying to term or aborting or adopting, I think this would do as much as 10 demonstrations of how to use birth control to prevent teenage pregnancies.
