Yes, We Have No Bananas, An Ever Green MMP

Afternoon all. Nappage became sleepage and I was there for over 2 hours, so now I need to stay up late tonight so I can get back in balance. Main activity was making my Great April Shopping List, which will be used tomorrow. Rain seems to have left the area, but the temperature has gone from 63F this morning to 50F now and 34F tonight. Good thing I don’t plant flowers, because this weekend sounds cold.

Had to add an additional jar of pickles to the list, as I dropped one getting it out of the refrigerator and it’s now in the garbage can. Hope I got all the glass bits picked up.

And posted to soon (clicked the wrong button)

So continuing…

nellie, finally ate about 10am, so sort of brunch-ish…usually I eat only 2 meals a day, one between 9-11 and another about 5-7. Speaking which, that hamburger should be thawed by now… And congrats on the new Grand-Niece!! None of my nephews or neice are even married yet, so now grand-anythings for me.

gotti, need to check my records and schedule my annual check–Insurance will pay for one stem-to-stern checkup per year, so need to do it the day or so after my 2020 one.

FCM, if you want to read British History instead of watch it, I can recommend Churchill’s “History of the English Speaking People”, at least the first couple volumes until the Americans start messing with it… Long reads though, Winston was not a terse writer.

Hope the meeting went well, talky…and I’m sure the hair looks great.

Wizard, your Drs. Office is open at 1:30am?? That’s a very tolerant Doc. Hope the appointment went well.

OK, that cheeseburger won’t make itself (although one could hope…). Take care all.

Peak day was peak-ier than usual, and they were using the bag slide to process packages, and having 3 people dump bags. Which meant 50% fewer people doing empties, and the bags were coming 50% faster. Guess who was bag guy today? :grimacing:
Me: < has trouble getting off floor after petting dog >
Gordie: “HA HA. SUCKS TO GET OLD DOESN’T IT, MONKEY BOY?”

Smoked paprika chicken, roasted chicken rice, and green beans sauteed with Calabrian chilies.

Ouch, Moooommm!.

Hopefully they can stop that, unless you want to sell jeans

Laid down prickle strip around all of the container vegetables, just to piss off the outdoor cats when they discover they can’t piss on my tomatoes. I’ve decided to experiment with a variation of The Three Sisters. Only I am going to try growing beans between a couple of Mammoth Russian sunflowers instead of corn. Let the sunflowers get a head start, then start the beans. Do the whole thing in a 110 gallon stock tank. That way I can move it around (barely) if I need to.

I’m getting nervous - several of my close friends have managed to break things in the last week. Plateau fracture of the tibia for her and a spiral fracture of the femur for him. Neither done while doing something sexy. Just “Oh shit. Gravity works.” I’m already clumsy by nature. Crippling yourself better not be contagious!

Yay for MrsLA getting shot!

Congrats on the great niece nellie!

Ouch Mooooooom!

It stormed pretty loudly ~1 am last night. My bunkmate was pretty upset, so I swaddled him for about an hour until the storm quieted down some.

Month end was brutal, but not as bad as last month. I’ll be glad when we get fully staffed.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Howdy Y’all! Accomplished all the things this mornin’ and had an afternoon of general sloth. Not a bad day at all! Rainin’ now and gettin’ cooler out. Tomorrow’s high will be only 61 Amurrkin! BRRR! OK, not BRRR, but back to Spring/Fall.

MOOOOOOM hope the ouchie is feelin’ better.

Flyboy yay for the Mrs. gettin’ stabbed!

Now I shall see what teh intartoobz is up to this evenin’.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

Winding down. We had one (1) ultra pissed off customer tonight - like, “getting out of his car to yell at us more effectively” level of PO’d - though we didn’t do a damn thing wrong; he made a mistake placing his order and was very unhappy with the result.

But I have some fun things planned for my Two Blessed Days Off to go along with the not-so-fun things, and am gonna have my belated black beans (heh) for dinner once I accomplish a bit more chillage.

Chief among the not-so-fun things is getting my tax stuff together, and making an appointment with someone who’s willing to take my money in exchange for handling something that gives me the screaming yips.
So I guess I need to slot in “find an accountant” into that ^^ series of tasks.

Maybe someday I’ll be able to file my own taxes all by my damn self, like a competent adult-y type.
For now, the entire thing is a gigantic anxiety trigger.
Plus, I’ve never dealt with state, nor local (!) income taxes before … and I worked in two cities since moving here, so how the hell does that even work? … the whole thing just freaks me right the fuck out.

AAAAARRRRRRGH!

{pant pant} {pets cat}

What? Fun stuff? Ah, yes, much better. I’ll think about fun stuff.

I need to set up a small 10-gallon tank tomorrow as a terrarium, and I’m SO EXCITED about why.

I did a thing. I found a local guy selling a corn snake and she’s beeeeeyoooootiful and I have been so sad since Chance died during my move (I may not have gone into that whole sad story here) and I just wanted to replace him with a similar corn snake and she is just the ticket for that, plus I finally got a stimulus check, and goddamn it I wanna buy something frivolous and fun just like everyone else.

Not sure if this is a pearl-clutching moment or not … :face_with_raised_eyebrow: maybe I should be jealous?

Morning, mumpers! Big change in the weather today, it’s cooler and overcast so much different from yesterday. Weather app agrees, “All the clouds can basically get back in their Jeeps and drive off into the valley of Aw, fucking Hell no” and promises me 7C/45C up to 12C/54F which is about half of the temperatures we had yesterday.

Busy day at irk, one meeting done already, one minion has accepted a permanent contract in another part of the uni, and one of our temps doesn’t want to extend her contract as her pre-covid business will be able to start up again soon. Very happy for both of them, but not happy for the team

Congrats to Mrs LA on getting her shot, and hugs to Mrs Magill for getting her pump sorted out.

Shoe, we have a laser pointer that the cats go crazy for. It’s got different settings on it so you can change the shape of what comes out. There’s the usual red dot, and a white spotlight thing, we can also change the red dot to be a smiley face, a butterfly, a star or a mouse. The cats get really confused when the laser mouse runs up and down the stairs and then disappears when it covers one of the catnip mice…it’s like having ghost mice!

talky I’ve told my boss she’ll have to deal with whatever I’ve done to my hair. I normally use normal brown dye to cover the greys but recently I’ve been experimenting with purple. It’s still largely brown, but the grey is now purple and there are varying shades of purple going on underneath because the brown dye isn’t always evenly distributed. Not that I care enough about it right now, I’m counting down to the 19th when I can get my hair cut and it might look vaguely respectable!

Right, time for a cuppa and then I have to write my own annual review notes to send to my boss. Oh, the joy.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 46 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 60, partly N.O.S. and windy for the day. Spring/Fall today. No plans at all for the day. Well, except to attend Maundy Thursday service over to the church house at six p.m. Other than that sloth shall ensue. I think we shall grab some MickeyD’s after the service for sup purposes.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

shoe - have you ever tried the tax-doin’ software? I always found it straight-forward and easy to use, and if you use its “interview” option, it asks the right questions to get you all you’re entitled to. This, of course, assumes you don’t have all kinds of fancy investments and bonds and assorted financial holdings, in which case, never mind.

boofae - why did I think you had black hair? Was it black when you and yours visited DC, or is my brain failing me yet again?

I woke to the sound of rain, but if the forecast is to be trusted, precip will end within an hour or so, then the sun will shine, the birds will sing, the children will frolic in the meadow… My only plan for today is getting us tickets to the Baltimore Aquarium for Moanday. After that, I’ll just figure it out as I go along.

And I think I solved the mystery of why I was having trouble falling asleep of late - too much caffeine! DUH!! For a while there, instead of limiting myself to a single Diet Coke in the morning, I was indulging in the afternoon. Once I quit that, I was dropping off at a reasonable hour. Huzzah! And I even bought decaf tea in case I wanted something warm in the evening.

My foot isn’t nearly as purple as I expected it to be this morning:
Imgur
It’s still a bit tender, but I’m certain there was no bone breakage - just major bruising. Oh, and that cool planter behind my foot? I made that in one of my pottery classes. I really should get my studio back up and running.

And so it begins. Happy Thursday!

I finally got a day off, and, predictably, I am awake stupid early. Forget sleeping in: I could comfortably make it in to open today, if I was so inclined - my “opening!” alarm wouldn’t go off for another half hour.

Perhaps a nap shall ensue this afternoon.

Morning all. Did some finance checking, and got a nice surprise, my US Government tax refund showed up overnight. Good timing, since I have a guy coming over this afternoon to give me a price on replacing my gutters. As for the Alabama tax refund…being Alabama, I’ll hope for before Memorial Day…

So pay electric bill, put money into the Credit Union account, do grocery shopping, and stay presentable enough for the estimator–for me, a pretty busy day. And the day is clear (albeit only 39F heading for 50F, so even colder than boo fae), so looks like the rain has passed.

shoe, so pretzel gets a neighbor (I presume they won’t be housed together). Nice. And yeah, if you get the Turbo Tax with State returns included (more expensive), it should walk you through the process 1-2-3. Your call.

quietly, good luck with the beans, and don’t break anything!

FCM, dropping heavy items on your foot is seriously frowned upon these days. Be well.

OK, need to get some nourishment and face the day (in about an hour, banks don’t open until 9am or so). Take care all.

Thanks for the recommendations, nellie! I did wind up slathering it with some antibiotic just in case and covered the finger well and I woke up to a fresh new flap of skin this morning, which was extremely reassuring. The edges are far, far closer together and I think after one more night it will have closed completely.

And sunny, I did talk to my boss and thankfully was told that I should be safe. Of course, emphasis on should. I told her I understood that there were no guarantees. I’m in middle management, which is often the first layer to go when there are layoffs. But I’m also less expensive than my peers. Either way - I usually keep my resume dusted off. It helps when I’m really frustrated.

Today is my Friday, which is incredible. I woke up last night to a chest full of goo, probably from allergies - not only have I been tearing out the most godawful, dusty carpet all week, I’ve been walking every day outside so doubtless it’s all accumulating as raunch in my nose & throat. I’m pretty sure I scared the dickens out of my husband, but a cough drop and some coffee this morning helped a TON.

I hope you enjoyed the beans, shoe!

And thanks for the reassurances about the hair, y’all - the meeting went well and nary a comment was said about the hair.

Just finished moving most of the crap from the basement to the shop across a soggy lawn. It only took 2 cartloads. There are still a few more things in the basement, but they may stay there - must talk to FCD about them.

Meanwhile, I’m still waiting to hear back from the aquarium about getting tickets. I’ve left 2 voicemails. Now I’m going to try email. grrrrrr

Want!!

That sounds like it looks really cool!

Absolutely no cohabitation. (Only idjits co-hab. It’s a recipe for stressed reptiles, at minimum. Maximum? Well, ya ever wanted to kill your roommate?)

{twitch}

Turbo Tax is the reason I haven’t gotten the “middle” $600 stimulus. Some SNAFU months ago meant anyone who filed thru TurboTax in 2020 did not receive their stimulus.
The solution from the gov’t was to receive it via tax refund months later.
… filed by TurboTax.

Yeah, nope.

No. I did not.

I did that thing where I was way too tired to eat, and sent myself to bed without any supper.

But I gotta eat today - there’s bean soup in my near future!

Fartfest to follow.

Six Flags near me is having a soft open tomorrow, so it’s on the morning news. They have designated Mask-Free Zones, similar to the old smoking areas. The one they showed appears to be about 15x15 feet with a couple plastic chairs.

So is this insane or excellent? As far as I know, it’s not an April Fool prank.

Busy day, what with all the Easter and April Fool’s gifts. But that’s how you make da bucks.

I remember this and don’t miss it a bit. Nope, nope, nope.

Mooommm The pot is beautiful! I think you should get that foot checked out. Foot fractures can be tricky.

I used to keep a spreadsheet with my accumulated vacation time, so I could track how much money I could walk away with.

This is a thing? Huh. People be weird.

Today the weather is shifting. The temp will be somewhere between 70-90. Yeeesh. I’m running a few errands and then praying my head doesn’t explode.

'Beamette will be back in the hospital for another week of infusions. They really seem to help her. I just hate for her to have to do this every 6 months.

Take care y’all.

Afternoon all. Banking is done and I have a nice round number in my savings account. For some reason I prefer having a $10,000/$15,000 show up rather than a $11,348.72…just crotchety that way, I guess. Of course every quarter they add interest so I have to re-calculate…

Shopping is also complete, got everything on the list, so now I need to wait until 3pm when the gutter folks are supposed to stop and see what new gutters will cost me.

shoe, I didn’t know that about Turbo Tax…I only got $13.55 for my second incentive, wondered how that happened. Will have to look into that…

{{{ }}} for Beamette. Having to spend that much time in hospital when you’re young and spring beckons…sucks…

Go get 'em, FCM. Nothing stands between you and those tickets!

OK, may grab a short nap before the gutter guy shows up. all y’all take care.

Email worked - I got a quick reply pointing out that the unlabeled number by the bar code on my temporary membership card is, in fact, my membership number. But with all the farting around, I wasn’t able to get us tickets for Monday morning, so we’re going Tuesday morning. Retirement/spring break means flexibility!

I rode with FCD to get some hardware at Fastenal - but the Hollywood location ain’t there no more! Closest is in Waldorf, 35 miles in the other direction. So we went to Olive Garden for soup and salad, then to Lowe’s so I could get some chicken wire. I wanted to get marigolds, too, but their garden center was all screwed up and the gate was locked and I didn’t want to walk out then in again, so I just got the chicken wire.

The sun didn’t last - it was sprinkling on us as we drove home. FCD has gone to take a nap, and I’m thinking I’ll tread the mill for an hour. Then I can be a bum for the rest of the day.
