Mine is a nightmare. A horror file on top of file on top of folder. It made our IT guy yell Jesus Christ! when he looked at it. It makes children weep and dogs howl in terror.

The question is, how do you find anything? Because it’s no problem if your folders are this messy, but why clutter your desktop with this detritus?

I’m too ashamed to post mine. I was encouraged at first by the people who said theirs were “messy”…until I looked at them. Mine is a nightmare. A horror file on top of file on top of folder. It made our IT guy yell Jesus Christ! when he looked at it. It makes children weep and dogs howl in terror.
OK, after all that, I can’t not post it. Here it is. You’ve been warned.

Yes! I no longer have the messiest desktop in the thread!

Really, you should try it. It’s an amazing invention!

Open the application first, then open the file from there.
It gets this way because when I work from home, remote server access means I have to download stuff–and guess where it all ends up? I know I need to clean it up, it’s just kind of a low priority compared to other stuff.
What does cmd-shift-m do? I’d hate to try it and have it mess up my whole system. ![]()
This is my desktop - tulips in my garden. I usually use pictures I took myself, usually flowers or trees. I don’t like people on my desktop, even my kids.
And I go for minimal too!
This is mine . I’ve been using that background photo for over ten years now. I like it.

Right-click on the Desktop, select Arrange Icons By –> and uncheck Show Desktop Icons. That should completely hide all of the desktop icons.

Thanks, but they’ve apparently got that disabled here. I could do it at home, but I actually use one or two icons at home.
My desktop last rotation: Desktop | beowulff | Flickr
Grace and Andy (Andy is the little one), and The Forum in Rome.

Hey, neat! I never knew that…
Here is my current desktop.
