Yet another Song ID thread

Don’t have much to go on this time, folks. I was in the bank a few days ago. They always have a radio going.

I heard a song with a Bo Diddley kind of shuffle beat going under some guitar work. Simple enough. There was a female voice and a repeated refrain of something like ‘No no no you’re not the one for me’. Or if could have been ‘I’m not the one for you’ or somesuch.

Note: This station seems to like playing hits of the last few years from several genres. I’ve heard Faith Hill, The Gin Blossoms, and Blues Traveller on it.

Any love out there?

KT Tunstall-Black Horse and the Cherry Tree

A little more information, if you could:

Was it a guitar-oriented rock song, or more pop?

Were there backup vocals? Male or Female?

Female background singers.

Guitar-oriented pop. Light, but not fluffy. There was some spirit in the vocal.

I see melondeca has a candidate. Is there anyplace I could hear a sample that y’all know of?

Here is sample.

If the background vocal was a woman going woo-hoo over and over then this is the correct song. And if so, you should know that KT Tunstall is doing all the vocals…and playing all the instruments.

Correct! Most notably (for better or worse) sung by Katharine McPhee on American Idol.

Hot damn that’s it!

Man, that’s some song. And some singer, too. I think, with a big trip coming up this weekend I might just pick that one up.

I’m disappointed that nobody said Rio, by Duran Duran.

I recommend her entire album, Eye to the Telescope. I heard “Suddenly I See” on Virgin Radio UK (online) last year and fell in love with it, and wound up buying and downloading her album from a UK site because she hadn’t been heard of in the States yet. It’s good stuff.

I will second that opinion. I first heard her on the Ellen Degeneres show and fell in love. If you can find it, her version of Get Your Freak On is great.
