I am an actual Steel Brigade member (I still have the figure and patch), but I have to admit, I couldn’t care less about this relaunch. 8" figures aren’t in scale with anything else, they’ll be more expensive, and a lot of people from multiple generations were really fond of the 3 3/4" figures. I say if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
The Joe fan community was pretty pissed. Especially since the 3 3/4 inch figs were put on “hiatus” (or cancelled according to Toyfare) in favor of the solely for kids Sigma Six line.
And then roughly a week ago Hasbro announced that the 3 3/4 inch figs would continue as online exlusives for sale through Hasbro directly.
This is my key beef with the new line. Six to seven inches would mean they fit with a whole slew of other toys (Marvel Legends, DC Direct, MOTU, etc. After all, toys are for playing with, aren’t they?), but eight inches is bigger than most everything out there.
They really should have gone with more poseable three-and-three quarter figures. At least that way you can have vehicles too. That was the original logic when Kenner decided to do Star Wars this size. They’d had a lot of success with the Six Million Dollar man figures, but they were too big to make successful vehicles in-scale, so they scaled-down the Star Wars line so that the vehicles would be manageable.
Hell, the original three-and-three quarter Joes were based on the Microman (Micronaut) body, so why not develop new Joes based on the new Microforce body?
